Did anybody else notice how quickly every "Can you please help me with this?" and "Do me a favor and please help out with that." stops being a request for help and becomes an everyday expectation? Lately I've started finding myself "unavoidably busy" whenever I get such a request just to avoid adding more to my plate for good.

Our division came up with a solution. Those who were a drag on others were recently let go.
I have one of those in my branch and the manager protects her!
I used to work in a group that had a woman who couldn't do a single thing by herself. Every single task she had she would involve someone else.
Drove me up the wall that I was paid less and below someone who constantly needed my help to justify her paycheck.
I work with some super lazy folks and had to learn the hard way not to be so helpful.
It's called "being voluntold"
the lazy older woman everyone talking about is in my group too!
She wants to do no work nor has no interest in anything, and take no notes!
We recently moved to a new group, now they can layoff her and 3 of the guys that came too.
What irritates me is the same person asking the same question five times without taking notes.
If you don’t bother writing it down instead of bugging me each time, I have no use for you.
I believe in helping out and being a good teammate. On the other hand, if you are lazy and not putting forth the effort, I will be a lot busier and unable to help out. I will help show you the way but I won’t do your work for you.
"get over it kiddo" seriously – I agree with the OP. I used to sit by this lazy woman who surfed the internet all summer, then expected me to do her work by the year end deadline. The boss was fine with it because she just wanted the work done. I finally started keeping a few projects to work on later in the year so lazy had to do her own work.
Yep, what @stg+1avLDUwB said.
They call it a team for a reason. Get over it, kiddo.
It’s funny you always bring up “older lady”. It shows your bias, kid. I have found it is often the younger workers that bug me for help, i.e. do it for them, usually because they are uninterested and busy texting their friends that actually working is lame.
this sounds like the older lady in our group, she uses this tactic all the time; most people dont respond to here and nor do I any longer. Its a trick to get you to do their work perm. There are some super lazy workers here. They are scamming you to burn you out if they can.
You must be new here.
In my group “Help out” has always been corporate speak for “take on permanently”.
I’m lucky to be on a team that is very collaborative. I help others where appropriate and I ask for help where appropriate.
