If it's a country we have staff in, you still need to get permission . If the company has no presence, it has the potential to create tax liability and it's prohibited by policy.

Talk to your manager about taking 2 PTO days or so and going overseas. Ask if you should take your laptop and/or devices in the event that there is a COVID related shut down or quarantine since that is a very distinct possibility. See what they say about it, then decide what to do.
I'm amused by the responses that make it clear how rigged the corporate game is when the company/management literally do whatever they heck they want, but there are strict rules to follow for the peasants.

Due to rules and regulation, every one cannot just go to India and work from there.
It’s in policy that you can’t take your wf device international without permission. There are controls on the WF juniper VPN to tell them where your connection is from. A VPN client can’t be used on your laptop to fake your IP so you’d need some kind of router to plug your laptop into and the router does the VPN.
If you get caught without permission, that would be it and you wouldn't get severance.
You have to get WF's permission for any work done outside the U.S., even if the work done is for a short period of time
@fgm+1akuvbZi no you don't have to. WF HR is not your friend, and you owe them nothing. If you are simply visiting abroad, it's the same as if you are on vacation. Taxes will stay the same. You don't transfer you tax dollars to Florida when you visit Disney World.
You still have to tell your manager and HR; so no. You would be required to tell your employer your state/ country for tax reasons
Get a VPN that allows you to show your IP address in the US, then go enjoy your time abroad.
