Well duh. At every bank I’ve worked at that’s the rule. No second chances with this one.
Why would anyone have an account at Wells to begin with?
Don't think tellers and those with, say, SHAW access are the only people who might have the opportunity to look at account information. Information in servicing systems flows downstream into databases, etc.
@1fzn+1aioPW3H you must be a manager. Being ignorant of technology does not equal understanding how things work. There are many applications out there that monitor access based on last names, known relationships, addresses, etc. One in particular, Beacon, provides real time alerts when certain criteria is met.
I heard a rumor about someone in my department getting fired for looking up accounts he or she didn't have a business need to be looking at. Being that it was a rumor who knows if it's true.
100 % true they can see what accounts anyone looks to at. Been involved in investigations to know.if there is an allegation they will review at a minimum.
In our job, it is necessary that we are in and out of many accounts all day every day verifying positions, etc. There might be a log, but I sincerely doubt it. They would not only need a log, but would need to spot check it verifying that all the “looks” were for a valid business-related purpose. That would take time, technology and money. It should absolutely be done, though.
Isn't this easy enough to check? A log of who accessed an account and then audit it? Despicable behavior.
WFC can assign all the classes they want, but they have to hire quality people. And they have to demonstrate ethics and values on a daily basis. And then they have to invest some money and effort in to backing up what they preach. Everything they SHOULD be doing to protect account privacy costs money which they have no appetite to spend. I’m pretty sure my 11 year old niece could hack us from the inside.
FYI - I’ve heard, can’t prove it, that there are employees who regularly check their co-workers’ accounts in March to see what their bonuses were. These are people whom you would never suspect.
WFC is very “Do as I say, not what I do.” Employees see right through that.
But it's in the required training all LOBS have to complete within the first 60 days then annually it's literally spelled out for you then you are tested on it. It's also covered in a few separate courses. Perhaps folks don't understand the definition of confidential or business need to know.
It still happens because there isn't a record kept that tracks who has looked up the accounts. I've had coworkers pull up other coworkers accounts & mines. I just closed my accounts & problem solved (wf isn't the only bank).
Got that right. This should be pointed out, early in onboarding, and enforced with zero tolerance.
I can’t be the only one who, in the annual training on how not to break the law, wondered if we actually employed anyone st—denough to do this.
Who would think it’s ok to review any account you aren’t servicing? Just because someone has Access to something doesn’t mean they have Authorization to use that access. People should be let go for that kind of breech.
