Thread regarding Wells Fargo & Co. layoffs

Are the cuts to Marketing really done?

This last round was brutal. People who had the protection of the gods are gone, and so are the gods. Is it over now? Can we buckle down to work without looking over our shoulders?

There are plenty of people who are strutting around like they’re bulletproof, others are still in shock and wondering when the whole function will be outsourced.

Absolutely no information is shared. In my group we’re expected to smile and not ask questions.

Can we believe the ones who think the survivors are safe?

I’m more curious to hear about the “heavy traveling” they were allowed to do during a pandemic. I think they are full of it.

So tell us - what big, exciting, in- person events will be happening over the rest of the year?

To the meeting and event planner who said there is a huge budget increase from 2020 - Wouldn’t that be obvious with the pandemic going on in 2020?

Oh gosh the meeting and event planners are back now they’re trying to tell us they’re risking their lives it never ends . What a joke there will be no meeting and events in 2021

We should get rid of the In House Agency entirely and outsource that function. We didn’t have an IHA before the Wachovia merger and the outside agencies we used jumped through hoops for us. Now we’re forced to work with this mediocre group that takes 3 times as long to do half the work and refuses to listen - because they are the experts.

And they get worse every year.

Who is replacing ML? Do we have any clue?

Meetings and Events is a very different scenario than Marketing expenses. We have a huge budget increase over 2020 and we cannot wait to unveil some of the great R&D we’ve done to roll out some great new Marketing get together. I think that our best clients are really going to enjoy the heavy traveling and research which we performed at great personal risk last year.

Marketing cuts simply can’t be over. So long as Marketing take 4 times as long as an outside agency at 3 times the cost there will be cuts. It is actually hard to envision keeping this function in house.

I’m in Marketing and I can tell you, still a lot need to go. SO many have nothing to do. Great people, but marketing has changed, and jobs can and should be gone. I know of one marketing program manager making $130,000 with nothing to do. Not her fault, they gave her that. Just siting and waiting for work. Meeting and events need to make more cuts.

My group lost 11 people. If you were one of the 11 it was brutal. A couple were deadbeats but most were not.

This will be a quarterly event for the next two years.

How was the last round brutal? Only lost 2 senior leaders ML and JA. A handful of digital let go too. Marketing is dead weight the entire calendar and pony program needs to go all 200 staff with it. Social media needs half staff cut. I mean really gut that department and save the real banking jobs.

They are absolutely not done. More planned for the May wave (along with pt 2 of the Comms reckoning).

I don't think anyone can truly feel 'safe' here. Company is going through a lot of change and tweaks will be made on a constant basis. Just look at every other large org/banks that have gone through

No one has ever been "safe", but I certainly wouldn't consider my position even "kind of safe" unless I had already survived all the 2021-2022 cuts. If you're still with the company in 2023, you're still not "safe", but at least the company likely will be done with sweeping changes/layoffs which certainly reduces the risk.
