Few systems QA Associates were let go today in my team
4 others including me are safe for now. Wondering what was the criteria for layoff?

I know one area for sure where it is favoritism. So glad to not be working there.
What is the criteria to choose QA's to be laid off, it can't be automation testing as many others who cannot write automation code survived this wave of layoffs.
So is it - performance reviews??
@2klr. Apparently you had a need to repeat your shtick because San Francisco or CA was not mentioned anywhere in that post.
You might want to find a rational argument for a change, though I personally agree that San Francisco is too expensive just like New York. I know the hubs of Charlotte and Des Moines would be a heck of a lot cheaper in both real estate and salaries. But upper management must have their perks at the expense of everyone they are laying off.
I haven’t yet seen the automated test that comes in Saturday to support the business after a release. The crackerjack developers can’t answer questions, that’s for sure. If you can get a hold of them.
The change will happen. We can't stop what's coming.
Ask Lowe’s how their customer service suffered when they went all in with offshoring their systems.
@2tyi. The customers will miss them as will the execs who will get fired after the poor customer service record gets around. Anyone who thinks automation finds anything but the most basic defects are deluding themselves. But keep believing in Santa Claus and the Tooth Fairy.
Over 20 yrs in IT across multiple companies. Your statement it can't be done has been said about all things here at the bank when it comes to automation and efficiency. Perhaps you're correct there are aspects of QA that require manual intervention. If so, they'll pay someone offshore 1/3 your salary to do your job. We have few true engineers here at the bank. Full of manual task doers who can't think outside of a SOP and just open tickets to vendors because they can't or won't research or think outside the box.
The entire QA team that I work with can be gone and no one will miss them. No need for worthless QAs
@2ozo. A dinosaur that has seen this tried and failed several times, kiddo. This management failed in this at Chase, what makes you think they will succeed here? They just prove Einstein’s theory of insanity, then cash out andmove on to sc--w up the next bank.
Spoken like a true dinosaur.
@2xwn. You know nothing about manual testing, it is obvious. For example, Did you know for example that it is LAW that accessibility options on web pages have some manual testing to make sure it fits standards? Also, you are lucky to automate 20-30% of your test suite and that is usually just regression. Most shops that tried the whole automation thing found that out the hard way. The automated scripts are hard to maintain and most shops can’t focus that many people on an effort just to maintain these scripts.
If you're doing manual testing you should be let go. The manual processes here have been ki----g WF for years
Some qa are expected to learn java and a11y. QA are not devs. Bad code is bad code. Software engineer titles is what they want QA to move to. That's a steep learning curve. Wish execs would look at other companies that have done the same and it hurt them and they switched strategies. Testing is being pushed out the window. Welcome to the madhouse.
Ivano's team systems QA Associates - no notice was given, they were just told that due to organization changes it was their last day today
Very scary
Thankfully i was not lade off today
Someone is flipping a coin behind the curtain
It would be great if you gave some indication which group/area you work in and where the layoffs took place.
me's layed off too
managers favorites are the lazy order taker type!
Are some running or writing automated scripts? That might be it. Or they just could be the manager’s favorites.
