Thread regarding Wells Fargo & Co. layoffs

Drip drip drip

Every day, I check the employee count on teamworks and it goes down about 150+ employees a day. I have to update my email distribution list weekly since I always have to remove all of employees email addresses with a 'zz'. So depressing.

Open Teamworks
Employee Search for Charlie Scharf
Look at how many he listed for “Total Team”

Until IAM gets caught up, it’s 258,440.

@2kyk+1aRSgYHL its that narrow minded thinking that needs to eliminated from here. I check because it is alarming to see this daily drop in head count. This is already a hostile negative environment. Trust me when I say I work circles around you since the latest layoffs started I have taken on work the equivalent of 3 FTEs. Just saying how truly sad it is to see headcount drop. Sociopaths aren't welcome here!

@2zba+1aRSgYHL. I would not do that even if it takes zero second. Checking teamwork daily for headcount that might not even up to date is pathetic. Lay off happens everyone knows that

@2tpk you equate the 15 seconds it takes to type in Charlie Scharf, hit enter, and click once to a complete and total waste of an 8-hour workday?

If you check this every day, then I suspect you are not a needed employee and should be displaced.

@1pcn It's even better than that.

The automation "portal" that has been created was never fully funded and is developed by what seems to be 1, maybe 2 people who are also severely overworked. It's been around a year and yet it still can't handle two different jobs from certain implementation tools within one request, so you wind up doing manual automated job kick-off rather than the abstracted job kick-off.

You actually wind up doing more work since you set up the job in the abstracted automation tool, then have to go into the implementation tool to check that it actually kicked off the job, and approved it.

This is without mentioning that the EPL migration is an absolute nightmare since app teams have churned through so many contractors that nobody actually remembers how the environments and jobs were configured, so you wind up troubleshooting migration errors during production deployments.

Oh yeah, and they implemented an approval step that wasn't there before, without telling anyone about it ahead of time, let alone at migration time. Sure it prevents unauthorized deployments, but it also winds up slowing down deployments that automation is designed to speed up.

Then there's the whole Agile joke which took quarterly releases and crammed them into monthly releases so teams are now doing 3x as much work just to implement the same scope of work.

The new management's definition of efficiency isn't making it easier to do stuff, it's justifying the expense of paying people by working them beyond the bone and into the marrow.

We haven’t been doing anything that improves efficiency. We haven’t done anything to get out of the buggy whip business. I’ll break it down for you.

  1. Charlie or Saul pontificates on how we have too many manual processes and we should automate them
  2. Technology starts working to automate more tasks. We are actually pumped about it even if we have to neglect our other work because we’ll be fixing technical debt we have complained about.
  3. Someone discovers the other work is getting neglected and determines that we could lose 10% of staff.
  4. Cuts hit the automation specialists hard.
  5. The work, not being fully automated, is not automatable with the smartest automation peeps being gone. We return to manual tasks with nothing to show for all that work. (So, more buggy whips)
  6. The C suite congratulates themselves for trimming the fat and reminds us all we need to automate more.
  7. PROFIT

Yeah it's always wise to stay with an employer whose plan is to deliberately make your experience so bad that you'll quit. They def have your back.

What a lot of people don't understand is that it's the ONLY way. It doesn't matter what any one company does, if their competition all do something that improves efficiency etc. they will put us out of business if we refuse to follow suit. We can keep making buggy whips right up until we all lose our jobs, or we can get with the times. Those are the only 2 options. Now let's see how many people got a C- in econ 101.

Attrition by people that don’t want to work here instead of laying off people that do want to be here is greatly appreciated by this long time employee. I’m not sure why someone on this blog would have any issues with that. But, I’ve learned that you can never make everyone happy. Anything this company does will have some people upset. It’s just how it goes. Layoffs will happen in all business lines when it’s deemed necessary to improve our efficiency and that’s the smart way to run a business.

ICS hasn’t had that bumpy of a ride yet. I can’t figure out if they’re ramping up to a bigger layoff or if they’re mostly not slashing security because it looks bad to regulators. My gut feeling is that the shoe will drop in June. The CISO leaving and then this week a manager two levels below him leaving, it looks like another big shift is coming sooner than later. But I don’t have any more information than anybody else.

What I don't understand is why someone laid off 6 months ago is still showing up in the zz list. Usually people fall off after 60 days.

This makes HR look incompetent, or worse like they're using it to show up just how many people are in the retainment pool so people stop looking to be hired out of the pool.
