Insulting Scheduling

I had to confront my GM because of some questionable scheduling practices. I was a full time (40Hr) SS and decided for a plethora of reasons to take on being a part time (24hr) SS. He has me scheduled for 34 hours due to "Business Needs" aka insufficient or unavailable staff. My viewpoint is that when I dropped from 40 to 24, I also took a paycut by reducing my bilingual bonus from 3k to 1.8k, also cutting my personal time, and not to mention the reduction of commission payout being that I am no longer a full timer. I have not complained about my hours or days scheduled nor have I requested any additional hours...what I have stated many times was that I would be willing to work the part time position as a 32 hr rep as long as I'm paid accordingly. My GM believes he is doing me a favor by giving me more hours all behind the mindset of "you are being paid those hours" but at a fraction of the cost it would take any other full time or 32 hr part time rep to fill. I am flexible with my schedule and hours as long as it's what I signed up for which was "up to 24hrs" not any other figure he cones up with. Being scheduled based off of business needs is fine by me but what is not okay with me is them wanting me to shoulder the load for poor scheduling and execution from the GM position. It is not my responsibility to work for others just because you granted everyone vacation all in the same week. It's inefficient and ineffective. I'm not about to work more for less all because my title says part time. Pay me right and I'll work whenever you want me scheduled. He said he would review policy but that I can work as close to 40 hours as I want...but he doesn't understand the financial perspective I'm seeing things from...am I wrong? I exceed my quota and am perfor.ing as a full timer as a part timer already, why would I go harder for no reason? Anyone else have anything similar? I went ahead and found the information and emailed my GM and rest of management staff and demanded he correct his error. I work with you, not for you.

I think what other commentors are missing here is when she went to PT, 24 hours, that reduced her bilingual bonus, it also reduced the amount of vacation/personal time she accrues because she technically considered PT. If she's considered PT but being scheduled for more than the 24 hours she agreed to work, she's not being given additional vacation/personal time based off being a full-time employee, over 32 hours is considered fulltime. She also doesn't get the same health benefits being PT. However she's working a full-time schedule. This is wrong. Sure, she's getting paid for the hours worked but not being given the benefits. This would call for a visit to HR or even the labor board. She also should be getting paid more for bilingual status if working more hours.

Pretty good rant from an aspiring GED candidate.

My gm also sucks at scheduling. He just gives everyone vacation and is stuck with one or two reps. Who trains them? I swear most gms are overpaid and don’t do sh-t for the store. Just give us live engage and get rid of sms and gms.

So they are making you work more with less pay ? If you sign up for 24hrs that’s all the hours that you should work . Have you to talk to hr about this situation? Go to them first not this layoff forum .

If you work more hours than your 24 or 32 you gain an additional commission pay. Read your comp plan.

I wrote this post because I AM NOT working the extra hours he is claiming that I HAVE to work because there is no coverage. I know how to protect myself and want others to have a similar mindset of accountability. Use their own policies to protect myself. I'm not getting bent lmao I work my 24 hours, get my money, and enjoy my family. I don't need extra hours from my store, that's my whole point. I am choosing to only work 24 hours. One way or another.

If you're not needing the extra hourly money why would you do it. I know some part timers that do and they are like you, willing to get bent over. You're saying now if you go over part time hours your at risk pay out doesn't change? So basically you add sales to the bucket for everyone else that is coded above you? Of course they GM and SM's want that! They make commissions/bonus also. Really comes down to you personally if you want to work harder for nothing or need the hours to make your hourly check bigger.
