Thread regarding Wells Fargo & Co. layoffs

Did WFC stopped backfilling positions?

Our team keeps losing people (just in the last three months one guy moved internally and one quit) and there hasn't even been a peep about bringing in people to replace them. I know this is one way of reducing headcount without layoffs but we are actually understaffed.

Regarding:

“ You whine about this all the times (correction: time) and how has it been working for you? If you have legit complains (correction: complaints) then speak up to those (correction: forgot a pronoun) can do something about it. Don’t be an (correction: a) whiny anonymous (correction: missing .)”

I strongly suggest you learn to write before you criticize others.

Suggest you learn to write and spell before you start giving advice to others.

I have always spoken my mind, loud and clear. My manager listens and usually agrees, but he realizes dealing with upper management is a losing proposition, as most people do. Why are you so judgmental of people who’s opinion doesn’t mesh with yours? Take a chill pill. This is an open forum.

If you google you can see articles last year in the Charlotte newspaper about how they wanted to trim down 25% of staff and planned to do it via attrition and unfilled reqs. This is what they meant by attrition. This is what normal looks like now.

As a survivor of our division's recent "thinning of the staff" (as the head of our division named it) I was a bit surprised to hear him say that the policy will be to not replace these people.. A wait and see if those remaining can divide the tasks of those forced out. We lost 4, and have hired only 1, with one temp. All that I know is that our division did not take part in the WF financial misdeeds a few years back but we are still feeling the effects. I can't wait for normalcy to get here.

@1btj+1aQ2fbD8 My marketing group is hiring left and right - younger, cheaper people to replace the older ones let go in the last round. They get away with it by slightly rewriting the job descriptions and then giving the new hires the exact same work the fired ones were doing.

Onward and upward.

@1tlt+1aQ2fbD8 Then tell Charlie and the board what you think. Who stops you? Speak your mind what are you afraid of?

I have no idea who you are, but it might benefit you to get that stick out of your backside. 95% of the universe thinks Charlie is a schmuck. And the Board are the schmucks who hired him. If you think he’s all that: yay for you and I couldn’t care less.

I hate being a jerk, but have you looked at what is happening at WF? This is a layoff board, WF is laying off 30% of its workforce, do you really think they are going to backfill your old peer's positions unless they really have to?

They are a slippery bunch. A lot of people were moved into my team in advance of the layoffs in order to shelter them. They have now been moved back to their original teams. Our team was not at risk and still isn't. The managers knew what was happening unless they were on the list to be removed. Many managers were offered non manager rolls instead of being let go and the managers who weren't liked by their managers were just let go. It is all about favoritism. We had open positions where the roles were approved but the new manager added the person to another team instead of adding them to ours. The only boys club and underhanded factor is huge at WF.

Our team has lost multiple state-side resources, and even our EGS team is a fraction of what it used to be. It's taken 9 months to get 2 backfills on the EGS side.

That should clue you in to how impossible backfilling state-side is.

yea why do they hire all these useless execs? They offer no value and do no work. Who can do the work? Too many chiefs and not enough workers!!

Charlie is a lazy schmuck! He just makes folks miserable until they leave and then sits back and collects his paycheck and his big payout when headcount reaches the right level to meet his efficiency ratio calculation. His only job is to demoralize "employees," gut the company by selling parts of it piece by piece, and then running away with the cash! He is a sad excuse for a CEO, a leader, or a man for that matter.

I used to work at a large brokerage firm, where they would shift employees from overstaffed areas to understaffed areas as needs changed. It could be temporary or permanent. We all worked as a team, knowing that if the company did well, so would we. And we did. It was viewed as a new learning opportunity if you were willing to go help in a busy department, and you would be recognized as a team player and we also made connections across the company that proved valuable.

Here -everything is so siloed, and some of the practices and policies pit employees and departments against each other rather than encouraging everyone to work together. I just can’t get over how terrible our leadership is, both past and present. They need to scrap the whole thing and start over with some visionary leaders who have the courage to convince the shareholders that they are going to make changes which will benefit the health of the company long-term.

In tech, non engineer job positions need SVB approval - what managers are going to stick their necks out for that during all this cost cutting? What you are noticing is what the company said it would do, no surprises - and it does mean more work for those who remain.

I don't think they plan on filling positions. They would prefer to be understaffed and double the work on everyone remaining.

They haven’t backfilled anyone in our area since May 2019. But they hired plenty of new “leaders” at four times the price.

From personal experience I left a few weeks ago and my boss told me the approval to fill my role as a manager was probably not happening and that even to get an approval for an IC headcount was 50/50 'at best' and that the req probably would not even be posted for 2-3 months(my guess is to see if they can get away without filing the headcount.)
