Thread regarding Verizon Wireless layoffs

Why are we told “magically” that we’re NOW understaffed

GMs nowadays are looking for more employees to be hired in Verizon BUT only PART TIME. There’s something going on based on how OLD the employee is. There’s definitely an “AGE” based discrimination going on. In our district in “Arizona” to be specific, younger folks are being promoted etc and the employees who have been with the company longer are literally given no incentives to move up. This is “LITERALLY” bcz they “KNOW” too much. I won’t elaborate further on that. Kinda goes like this: OMG a $400 commission after taxes for all my work. Wow, that’s the best thing which could hppn to me WOW, Hahahaha. I really feel sorry for what the newsbs are being trained at btw, bcz this company is all abt Han’s Salary plus Bonuses, then comes Krista’s share & shareholders & etc etc etc & the list goes on. Who made them that money? US. Who resets the passwords for their FB & emails, who deals with customer or consumer abuse on a daily basis? Who does them numbers’ game whether it makes sense or not based on VZP, VZP HOME & other BS which comes along with it? “Bottom Line” who gets the SMs, GMs & Area Managers PAID? Its “US” NO ONE ELSE. WE R THE REASON WHY THE PEOPLE ABOVE US WHO “DO NOT CARE” & ARE ABLE TO ENJOY THEIR LAVISH LIFESTYLE, VS US JUST SLAVING OURSELVES AWAY FOR THEIR COMFORT. We are the reason indeed that they’re still driving their imported cars, living in mansions, etc Vs us just barely making it there. That’s why they’re hiring 18-20 year old college Goers to do the same with mo questions. Has anyone taken a note of that yet? Yes we have it going on in our district & YES they’re doing it in a very secretive manner & YES there r a few individuals WHO barely make “THEMSELVES” available to work & r on vacation 6 months out of the whole year & just simply plan THEIR WORK PLAN WHICH ONLY WORKS FOR THEM & if there are any hurdles like customer escalations, manager involvement if a customer asks for one etc, they just seem not even interested just bcz they gotta hop on that “CALL” etc u know so that whatever negative survey comes on a rep its entirely their fault whether its the Solution Specialist’s fault or not so that way they can write people up for Miss Mngmnt. Bottom line we need a Union. SMs, GMs, & “Area Manager’s” feet lickers are most welcome to post on here. To he-l with ya’ll to too to top it all off. Simple Mantra for all of us “Solution Specialists”: “DO UR 8, THEN HIT THE GATE” & DO NOT CARE what goes on after u clock out, bcz the people above us DO NOT CARE. Make ur “SALARIES” “JUSTIFIED” SMs & GMs. Bottom Line: UNION is the answer, there’s gotta be a REASON, why AT&T still have them. Hans’s pets are most welcome to bark at this post!!! Hahahahaha. Truth will still WIN, sooner or later!!

I'm in Texas and as far as I'm aware we cannot unionize here. They can fire you for any reason here, just our law (TX). Either way if you've been in the industry I cannot fathom this being your first dust up with sneaky and shady business practices and policies. Here in TX I suppose it's on each individual to protect themselves. Know your rights, know your handbook, know your resources, know how to professionally maneuver through the nonsense. I've been in a fullout battle with my GM since February (he was transferred that month to my high volume location) cause he receives all the credit and praise and literally no bs just sits in the back and sends us texts whenever he receives any form of generic info from the company. It's all a mockery. We have one rep on deployment (which coincided with the removal of individual commissions, just saying) one rep on LOA, and the reps that are available call in all the time without warning or regard for their peers. So the company tells us that we are actually overstaffed (there are only 8 rep slots, 2 gone, 3 part timers, and the rest full timers.) We could fill those 2 slots and they would be so crucial to even exceeding our already high revenue, but they just put the pressure back on us reps. It's unfair, but at this moment in history I'm more than happy to continue to accumulating tenure for my resume, and once this storm has passed, move to greener pastures. The days of being a lifer at companies is long gone. It's just business. I work with Verizon, not for them.

They have been PIP-ing out mature workers and hiring lip-servicing, kool aid drinking toddlers since I left in 2015. SSDD.

I can’t remember the last time a rep get let go because of a PIP. Maybe going forward you may see more of this but if hundreds of reps all of a sudden are dropping like flies over pips then it makes the company look really bad.

@uxb+1aNeO0WI- incorrect, they rather be shady and mess with reps numbers to try and pip them out so they don't have to pay severance.

Yes you make some good points. I’m not sure i fully agree with packages costing money part. Maybe in the short term it does but they save more money in the long term. Companies get to write off severeance packages anyway. Verizon is not patient in making changes so look for some dramatic moves in the next several months. They would never allow/rely on attition to do its dirty work as we have seen this past year.

See, but packages cost money. That's a last resort for dire times. When you're approaching that point but not quite there... maybe for starters you just make the situation increasingly unpleasant for long-timers and some percentage of the desired turnover happens naturally as folks decide to leave on their own for greener pastures.

Ehhh if Verizon wanted long time employees out they would be offering packages. In the current environment there would be a mass exodus if Verizon offered so you would think they would take full advantage of the times.

This just in: It costs a lot of money to keep an employee a long time, and companies are starting to discourage it if they want to stay in business.
Who knew?

I'm an SM and work my bu-t off daily. I understand your frustrations. You can point your finger at me if you like but I am fighting the same battle as you. It's true, the part time push shows what they think of all of us as skilled labor. They think it takes no skill or finesse to do this job. Plug a teen in and win the day. Sad but they are seeding their own failure. The constant turnover is going to be the same as our future churn. It will take the next CEO to turn it around because current leadership is manufacturing their own AOL/Yahoo fiasco. Its not like anyone stopped the last CEO leadership group from digging a ho-e and making poor decisions. We are now punchline jokes on late night TV. The AOL/Yahoo mess up could be sold off in a week with a 5 billion dollar loss. Losing years of talent and skill will take years to replace. This CEO got us into 60 plus billion of trouble in addition to destroying an awesome frontline crew and winning mentality. When you create a culture of kool-aide drinkers and number chasers then this was bound to happen. Our CEO doesn't know how to build. He only knows how to tear down. This is what socialism looks like when it invades the work place. Everyone is judged by the acts of others (RIS) and everyone paid the same. Our best days are far behind. Time to abandon ship.
