Thread regarding Wells Fargo & Co. layoffs

People need to learn to work smart

When I see people who have been here longer than a few years working as hard as they can to get ahead at WFC I have to wonder if they've been paying attention at all to what's been going on around them. People who work hard don't get promoted! Those above them see them as a threat and as such, they're making sure to keep them exactly where they are. When you start working smart instead of hard is when you'll see some progress. Until then, sorry but you're stuck buddy.

The last two have definitely been a waste because of the lack of direction. Reminds me of a dog chasing his tail.

When you're right...you're right. 10 years in.....and 6 of them have been a waste.

Oh goody, we have a psychologist on staff. Go ahead and tell the rest of the class about the minds of those that refuse to acknowledge that it's even possible for a combination of both hard work
and working smart to result in positive outcomes and therefore they must go on a layoff site and tell everyone else that they shouldn't even bother making an effort in life. The vast majority of successful people are very hard working, and absolutely 'work smart', but what do they know right? If only we had some real world examples to show us what course of action was most likely to succeed.

Gah, I want to downvote, but I've been snared in his logic trap!

@1qvb+1aFmlKdh a person that is insecure and knows that his/her manipulative post is a fallacy builds in "if you downvote me you're a poopy-head".

The OPs other problem is that they look at these 2 things as mutually exclusive when they clearly aren't. Successful people work smart AND hard. It's not one or the other. But go ahead and downvote this post if you're an underachiever and/or believe that being drinking buddies with your boss is the only way to get ahead in life. Some of the people on this forum really need to look in the mirror, and they routinely downvote truth.

From what I have seen over the years people get promoted by leaving their current position and applying for a higher level job in a different department. That has seemed to work out well for many of my former team mates.

Yes yes, because no one ever gets promoted because they are good at their job and bring a lot to the table for the next level. You're projecting and making excuses.

Truth. Hard work, at least in many areas and depending on the manager, is rewarded with a decent bonus, lackluster raises and little chance for promotion. So disheartening when you know more than your manager about the actual business, they take credit for or shoot down all ideas outside the box, and never share your successes/wins with their bosses. Sigh...

Sad but true. Those who kiss the as--s get ahead, results don't matter. I've seen some of the most incompetent, do nothing people get these fancy jobs and the people who execute, lead and produce get stuck. It's a swamp. I agree with your post, unfortunately.

@wnn - Lol, how many as--s did you kiss to be promoted 3 times?

Wells Fargo people in manager positions promote POC, favorites, and political allies in Wells Fargo, They talk lies and are fake incompetent people because it does not matter that they know how to do their jobs and it is not important they have the know-how.

@wnn+1aFmlKdh you didn't tell us what you worked hard at doing. I've had two managers, clearly incompetent, that were promoted as well. They knew how to suck up. One manager destroyed (literally, the teams are not there any more) two different teams. She was promoted up until the point she retired. So tell us, what "hard work" were you doing?

I work hard, and I've been promoted 3 times at WF, so far. Makes me wonder if the OP ever actually tried the work hard approach or if they're just making excuses for not advancing.

OP

You would make a great politician, because you said (typed) a bunch of words, without saying anything concrete. Would you care to elaborate? For eg, what is “working smart” in your terms? How does your version of “working smart” differ from your version of “working hard.” I know the textbook definitions, but I have a feeling you’re coming from another angle.

Some people take pride in what they do and some people are happy to be sole contributors and not move into management. Not your who your unsolicited advice is aimed at but I'm sure someone somewhere finds it useful.

It just matters if your manager likes you, not how hard you work -
