Screen monitoring?

A while back it was mentioned that they will take screenshots of your monitor if you are idle too long. In the last week or so during conference calls I noticed that part of one screen goes black for about 10 seconds and then goes away. Is this some sign of big brother spying? Curious because yes I'll have moments of inactivity while on d#@& calls. Or is my computer about to break. Anyone else having this symptom?

It's an issue since the Windows upgrade. Yes, your network activity is monitored, but they don't need to affect your user experience/screen presentation for that. In fact, it'd be counter to any good monitoring effort to do that.

Was it after the Windows 10 upgrade?

if your laptop doesn't have a video camera blocker then use post it note with scotch tape, they can monitor you using video and there is no tight to privacy

Wells monitors your computer time in multiple ways.

It's a useless metric for many positions. I used to spend half my time on calls, not typing, but I would hope they know that and measure people against others with similar job descriptions.

Have the same happening after the last major Windows update. I chalk it up to the bloatware they install that the majority of us don't need. But if they want to peek, go ahead, it's company property.

Ridiculous. Microsoft provides activity (skype/outlook/word/excel/pp) reports about utilization. Of course, most managers just list you on their skype contacts and see when you switch from green/red to yellow.

@xri there's no agenda, and not all groups are "tech" and even among tech groups there's no certainty that SVB = WFC in this area. Neither of us has the perf data that WFC leadership does. My point here is that the people that do have the data are behaving as if they know WFH is problematic in some way, for some groups. Doesn't mean everyone. I suppose they could be acting counter to their own personal interest, but that'd be pretty unusual behavior.

t's not a 10 sec capture when done; more like 1-2 seconds so its more likely one of your monitors is going out.

Well SVB reluctantly admitted tech was 35% more productive at home a while back so that blows their we-should-be-in-office theory out of the water. Not sure what you are referring to, but sure there is an agenda you have.

If they are doing it, it's obviously automated. I'm guessing the data blows the "I'm more productive at home!" narrative out if the water, which is motivating the 'back to work...errr....office plan'.

Yes. Wells currently has a team monitoring every one of their 200k+ employees screens...
