Thread regarding Wells Fargo & Co. layoffs

It's not just layoffs

Wells Fargo has stepped up firings as well. They seem to be looking for any and all reasons to kick people out - anything that'll not get them into a wrongful termination lawsuit mess will do. Make sure you're extra careful not to mess up, even if it's things that used to fly.Don't give them a reason to save on severance.

It's very easy. We had two people let go for "poor fit" and no warning. One had been here 7 yrs and the other 3 yrs. What a crock. Both were great and very valuable, but the mgr felt threatened (incompetent and evil). "Poor fit" is the new black!

Make no mistake, this is exactly what WF is focusing on now. Termination for cause, in hopes of not only no severance, but also no unemployment insurance. You can sue for the latter and will likely win.

In all honestly, it is really hard to get fired from anywhere. In the 20+ years and multiple companies I have worked at, I have only seen 1 person be laid off for their performance and it took every bit of one year of documenting his performance before he was laid off. I have never seen a minority of any type ever laid off for performance even though some were worse than the 1 person was laid off. As long as you don't break any rules or do something egregiously wrong or inappropriate, you will never be laid off. Only time people are laid off are when there are restructuring or company wide downsizing.

I have seen a lot of people who would have been walking out with a box in the old days still being tolerated, especially in technology where it seems mediocrity is accepted and tolerated, especially if you were born offshore. I know I will get a lot of down votes but I call it as I see it.

Based on this logic, MN should have been out about 6 months ago!

If you are not doing anything blatently wrong(in most cases repeatedly), it is extremely hard to get fired from here or any other large bank. In fact, most times HR requires you to put a person on corrective action and a plan to perform better. That in and of itself takes 6 months plus. People almost never get fired for performance without being on plan first which means we are stuck with them for 6-9 months at least, and at that point, you may as well just give them their package and thank them for their service.

One of my coworkers did get fired a few weeks ago but there was a really, really good reason for it so I don't see a problem with it.
