Thread regarding Wells Fargo & Co. layoffs

Trying to make everyone go back into the offices

So we just got an email about them wanting us to go back into office in the Fall. This is so stupid and a waste of money. WF should be reducing its footprint more so that we stop wasting money. The more money that we can save the more jobs we can keep and stop laying off so many people.

The vaccine does NOT prevent COVID nor is it proven to be effective for more than 6 months (for Pfizer’s). It only provides a very high probability you wont require hospitalization or succumb to symptoms. You can still transmit and contract the disease. But by all means, head back to the office to increase your odds of infection while Chuck throws darts in his penthouse game room to choose the next round of layoffs.

And remember you shouldn’t take work calls while driving. It’s not safe to be a distracted driver. So if you are taking calls at home remember that hour commute is no call time when you are back in the office.

I have friends that have left hubs to work from home and their attitude was, if you don't like it, lay me off but they're also skilled technical folks and they were given a pass because of their skill sets - it's all swings and roundabouts

@xzf Yeah that's just it . I did NOT sign up for an office job. I came on board because I was offered full time telecommuting. I support coast to coast. In any of the "hubs" there are at most 2-3 ppl I would actually work with. So which one do they force me into? And what happens when my productivity drops because I can't cover all the calls I cover today? So, screwed if I refuse to go into an office, screwed again if I go into an office.

Yeah that works well.

Progressive companies will probably start poaching staff now with “remote option” jobs. There is always competition for good people. The Sept date gives our competitors plenty of time to recruit and onboard by August 1. I need to check Glassdoor to see how many new jobs have been posted with a WFH option today.

Nothing burger for me since everyone in my role had to give up our office space. Unless there’s some big meeting (hahahahaha), I’ll be WFH just like I am now.

  • if I still have a job...

Enjoy going back to the office. At least you have a job. Wah wah

Oh by the way Charlie will be directing operations from his Manhattan penthouse. If he ventures to the office it will be via limo

Charlie is behind the times. But make no mistake... while he may not be trying to force folks to quit (without severance) over the WFH policy, but he is more than OK if they do. He has no time for employees who don't fall in line. He'll worry about retaining talent in a few years.

I recently left WF for a company that was pretty old school about remote work pre-COVID, but leadership has done a 180. My senior management is making a persistent case for WFH, whereas I figure their peers at WF would be scared witless to make waves on the subject. And the three reasons given are 1.) we've found people can be very productive working remotely, 2.) we trust our teams to make responsible decisions about how they work and 3.) we're worried we'll lose our best people if we demand a return to 5-days per week.

If you really want to have the flexibility to work remotely, there are plenty of companies going that direction. Unfortunately, WF isn't one of them.

Oh boy - the s—s-ups are out in full force tonight. Can you please come up with something other than whining the standard “If you don’t like it then leave!” You SHOULD be laid off for lack of originality and for having no self-respect. Honestly, would you please grow a pair? I’m, literally, embarrassed for you. Why are you so indebted to a company who wants to kick you to the curb? I’m betting you’re the same people who beg for someone, who cheated on you, to stay and give you another chance.

It’s a big world out there and you don’t have to keep standing up for and protecting people who couldn’t care less about you.

Need to still follow protocols. Vaccinations are helpful. Dont 100% protect, especially with variants.

You signed up for an office job. I'm not sure, given the vaccine etc, why you have an issue going to the office. I hope they make everyone prove that they're vaccinated but aside from that, what's the big deal?

and keeping the open concept sardine plan because people want to collaborate. Sure I cannot wait to get in all those germs. I bet UpChuck gets to keep his desk while we go into Petri dishes because it is cheap

WF will be reducing it's footprint at the same time, they're not conflicting objectives in all cases.
