OP here.
I never said Wells is streamlined. But I don’t put the blame on the employees. I put the blame on past Senior Management who did not invest in technology. We need a lot of employees to support the manual work-arounds required to keep the business running properly on the old technology. That doesn’t mean there is something wrong with the employees.
And I put the blame on the useless red tape you mention, much of which is required to try to keep us legal in a world where we should have updated technology that can perform the checks and balances instead of employees.
I work in a LOB where we have over 3000 system enhancements that have been log-jammed for years. Senior management (and yes - this new team also) will not spend the money. You spend it on the systems or you spend it on the people. That’s why it’s easier and faster for Charlie to just sell whole business lines. Because he knows he’s going to have to spend a lot of money and a lot of time to fix the systems in order to cut the headcount meaningfully. Reducing redundancies will help, but it doesn’t generate the impact and the cost-savings he needs to generate while also keeping us in the good graces of the regulators.
Those are the facts. I don’t blame my teammates and I don’t call them names: “dead weight” and “trim the fat” when I’m looking to fix the real problems. The employees who do so reveal how very little they really know about the inner workings of Wells Fargo.
