Thread regarding Wells Fargo & Co. layoffs

I’m concerned about the majority of our employees

I will be okay either way. My husband has a good job, and I will be looking forward to a healthy severance package and a break from the workforce should I be cut.

But I am concerned that a good majority of our employees aren’t facing the reality of their job security at WFC. Most of my friends here think it’s not going to be them. It doesn’t matter if you are a 2 or a 4 if they cut your department, sell your LOB, move your job offshore, or consolidate your role in another state. You can be a top performer, and your boss’s favorite, but the decision could come from many layers up. In fact, they are probably going to eliminate the boss who would try to protect you.

It sounds cold, but they are making decisions for the good of the business. Your loyalty and hard work and winning personality don’t matter here. It’s been in the papers that they are eliminating 1 out of 4 employees. The handwriting is on the wall. Honestly, what more do you need to know? I think we might have employees who will be training their replacement and then still be caught like a deer in headlights when they are let go.

COVID is improving. The economy is improving. Many other businesses are learning how to flourish in our evolving world. Don’t believe what others say, that it is like this everywhere. It’s not. The majority of my friends and family all have great jobs and careers with good companies who don’t need to wipe out 25% of their workforce to survive. Please be out there looking aggressively right now. It’s difficult to take a step back and see it for what it is, but you must. You deserve better, but you’re going to have to go out there and make it happen for yourself.

Your new job must s— if you leave WF after a week, but insist on coming back here to post in every single thread. We get it, you didn't like WF...now you're gone and no one cares. Move on with your life

Too many managers let go and the ones left have too many direct reports. So yes, most of us are running it ourselves while they still are trying to come up with a plan.

I just started monday, but good news is some other offers came in. I decided to accept one of them and leaving here. This place is a dumpster fire.

WHo on earth is running it or is it running itself?

what if I am happy and feel appreciated here? Also, if I did leave to greener pastures, you wouldn't find me wasting my time here.

Last week was my last week. No way I was waiting around to see if my job was safe. I'm in week 1 of my new job and I wish I'd left sooner. For anyone staying out of fear of the unknown...don't let that be the reason you're collecting unemployment this year.

Dust off that resume and get out there. You may find yourself in a job you actually feel good about and appreciated in. Good luck, all.

This is a very well-written post. I appreciate it. Some of us do need a kick in the rear-end.

I’m out here for insight in to the company I work for and might be laid off from. And this is the only board I know of where I can share the common experience of working for WFC with my fellow employees across the country. This board could be a good thing for all of us and yet we’ve got some unfortunate participants who want to lower the bar of how we treat each other. I would prefer we not discourage posters who take the time to write something real and who try to help.

Those of you who are on the attack: You sound so unhappy and miserable. I’m sorry about that, but I’m not sure how you think you benefit from trying to take the rest of the world down with you.

I would highly suggest that people be sure they are careful on walking the fine line of ethical and unethical. or other ways that are opposite. Today everything is recorded or watched, or viewed and nothing is hidden; you never know who is watching or knows. Look at some of the recent events with famous celebrities from 25+ years ago.

I just left. Almost every single person I talked to on my way out is hoping and praying they get missed when the next round of cuts. Betting that Chainsaw is going to miss you has to be an awful way to live.

If your skillset is strong there are lots of other opportunities out there. No need to live in fear unless you don’t have the skills to work somewhere else.

Damn foreigners. STEALING jobs from GOOD AMERICANS

I have to laugh every time I see or hear a comment like this. Immigrants and foreigners are not STEALING anything. They are in no position to steal. American companies actively recruit them and GIVE them the jobs. Sometimes it’s because they work for less, sometimes it’s because American companies prefer their employees powerless, and sometimes it’s because Americans won’t do the work.

But it’s NEVER because the job was “stolen”. Amazing that Americans fall for that BS. Or maybe not, considering they like to let Fox News do their thinking for them.

There is only one employee at Wells Fargo who is going to come out of this unscathed. It’s Charlie Scharf.

The weak will support him in his efforts, hoping to grab any sc-aps he may or may not throw their way. I don’t get why anyone would support him either. It’s the people who are willing to turn on each other to save themselves. Who wants to be left behind with those kind of people?

The strong will move on and find a job at a company who is growing and flourishing and let’s it be known that they want you to grow with them. Just get out there and be looking. There is no downside.

Seriously, my cousin just left here for a job at an insurance company. In her third interview, they asked her what would be the minimum she would be willing to accept. She told them and the manager laughed. Their minimum for the job she was applying for was 25% higher than she makes here now. She has been here for years.

Grab the bull by the horns and get moving. I plan on being my own Yes Man, not Charlie’s.

If these people are too complacent to control their own futures, there is something seriously wrong with them. I am not sure they understand the country is beyond broke and cant pick up their laziness with never ending unemployment either

I’m not the OP, but I’ll say it. I hope everyone jumps ship. Not to “punish WFC” 🙄, but because you would have to be a fool to put your faith in Charle Scharf or to let your financial security be in the hands of WFC. Are you dense?

You want to support the company who’s goal is to get rid of you? That is pure insanity, but you go for it and let us all know how that worked out for you.

Wake up. The party is over. Get your head out of the sand. Eat, or be eaten.

@OP+19, you need to move to Nashville TN and work for Dave Ramsey.
You are obviously wasting your time and talents at Wells. You would do so much better there not to mention saving money versus living in CA. I am just saying.......

I almost get a you poor slobs out there attitude.
Yes, I'm looking. I don't need to be lectured into looking. There aren't many jobs and if the ax falls before I find something, I will have to deal with it and muddle through.

Interesting timing of this post for me. Wells DID just lay off my boss. He was one of the good ones left. He knew everything about our segment of the business and tried to walk that fine line of keeping the new bosses happy while trying to support his team. I guess he wasn’t as cold hearted and self interested as he should have been. I worked hard for him, not WFC. From what I hear, we are going to be reporting to some guy in another state. I looked him up, and he has ZERO experience in our business. Nice.

Yes, we all better start looking out for ourselves. The team spirit is long gone.. I want to work for a company that I believe in, that energizes me, and appreciates their people.

FYI-they are letting go people in dribs and drabs. That’s how they like to do it. There will be some large announcements, such as selling WFAM or closing 25 branches etc. But for the most part, they like to keep us in the dark as far as who and when. They want you giving your all right up until that last day.

OP here. I think it’s pretty obvious that people need to hear it. Employees are exhausted and beaten down and are in Hoping For The Best mode. Hope is not a bad thing, but sometimes you have to face reality in order to change it.

People, naturally, resist change. I do, myself. You have to see it for what it is to have the objectivity and strength to move forward and do what’s necessary to protect yourself. WFC is not protecting you.

The sale of WFAM should be your wake-up call.

I posted this knowing there are people who get their daily jollies out of critiquing every post. Good for them, it’s the nature of the beast. If you are happy here and can take the risk of losing your job, stay. If losing your job is going to put you in a bad position, the time to be aggressive in your job search is now. Best wishes.
