Thread regarding Wells Fargo & Co. layoffs

My take is that WFC is playing everyone for a fool again

I think we all are being taken for a ride.

Regulators: They are tired of dealing with us. Prior management was disrespectful and arrogant, angering the wrong people. Charlie has fallen on the sword and presented a plan, any plan. Regulators can now soon say “they did their job” and move on. (We, the employees on the inside, can see what a mess this place really is and that it’s all just a dog and pony show.)

Shareholders: They are falling for the dog and pony show, the few positive articles that “WFC is back!”, and are only too happy and too quick to throw their money back in. Hoping that they can somehow get back some of the money they lost by trusting us in the first place. (“Don’t be sore, buy more!” “Average down!” “That new expensive management team has magically made all those nasty problems disappear.”)

Employees: WFC can not properly manage the business with 265,000 employees. They have everyone convinced that it’s because there’s too many of us doing the work and clogging it all up. Fewer of us doing the work is going to make it all so much leaner and easier to manage. Therefore, 25% of us must go. Huh? Could you run that past me again? Cut my department of 20 employees down to 15, and it will be easier? The systems haven’t been fixed. The communication hasn’t been fixed. Our outdated Policies and Procedures haven’t been fixed. And now, my teammates are in “Every man for themselves” mode. Who is buying this?

Forgive me, but I’m not seeing it. People love a comeback story and are too quick to trust. I’m not falling for it. Good luck to those who do.

Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me.

To all the people who are buying WFC, hoping to make their money back in the stock: There is no financial advice that says you have to make your money back in the same stock where you lost it. And yet people tend to want to do that.

And for some reason, we feel more comfortable buying the stock of the company where we work, assuming we have some inside track to how it’s being run. Well how has that worked out for you so far?

There’s a whole world out there. Don’t place your bets on the same company where you work. Especially WFC, who is under scrutiny by the feds and is being run by a new unproven c-suite.

I would not (at this time) recommend WFC in any capacity: not to a potential new employee, not to a potential customer, not to a potential business partner, and definitely not to an investor.

@1xfb+19wiodav 260k employees is too many for a domestic bank IF it was being well run. Little to nothing about WF is operating well. Leadership has delayed many layoffs because they realized the work won’t get done without the same employees slated to be displaced. Instead, they’ll continue to use those employees as whipping posts while demoralizing them.

I don’t fix printers for a living, but it sounds like you are putting down the people who do. Is that a condescending jab at working class people? The same people who are bagging your groceries, fixing your car, delivering your Amazon packages, serving you at your local restaurant?

Take your pathetic arrogant POV elsewhere.

Agreeing with believing everything one reads and hears from upper management isn’t necessarily “caring for Wells Fargo”, and it’s employees.

What will help WFC, in the long run, is getting to the truth and fixing the real problems at their source. I don’t think Charlie cares for WFC. Do you? Charlie cares about Charlie. He’s looking for a quick short-term win to boost his resume and then he’ll be on to his next company with no concerns about how the quick fixes ruined us in the long-term.

I hope I’m wrong, but I don’t think I am

If you can not objectively come to the conclusion that 260k employees to run a domestic bank is completely over the top then it proves you have your own agenda and don’t care about the future of Wells at all

Simply responding with insults doesn’t really say much for you, or your ability to clarify your own opinions.

One piece of this that I agree with, our infrastructure and documentation are completed outdated. Additionally governance of any change management is poor.

Things are changing, in many cases for the better, (some less so), but until these underlying problems are fixed it’s going to be a hard path forward. The problem is, changing infrastructure and documentation is slow and costly, we are trying to speed to get the asset cap and consent orders lifted while cutting budget. It’s hard to accomplish all of these things individually, let alone at the same time.

Most of the negative replies here are from the same troll. How can you tell? They all have the same mentality/maturity of a young child who has just started testing boundaries using “bad words”. Most children do this to seek attention when they are not able to get attention from more positive communication.

Lucky us: we have a troll with stunted brain development.

Strange, there's a massive win and your sore about it. You've likely been either laid off or 3rd party consulting laid off. Get over it. Wells Fargo's back and will start taking heads.

Regarding “Charlie is doing what needs to be done.”

Bernie Madoff had his blind supporters too. Sometimes you have to think for yourself.

Sloan and shrewsberry came out in like 2017 or 2018 and said up to 20% of the bank would be laid off. So the plans were set in motion well before chainsaw

“WFC can not properly manage the business with 265,000 employees.”

Wells Fargo needs 200k employees to run optimally.

Charlie is doing what has to be done. He has to keep cutting. I wholeheartedly support him and his actions

Let’s go Charlie!!! Keep that foot on the gas pedal

They are playing everyone as fools and all these people let these inexperienced managers choose their futures and most have zero experience. For me I got another job doing what I want to , not what a failing , scandal filled bank chooses for me. I will choose the future I want to have.

everyone should know by now management lies 98% of the time, from execs down to lowest level of management. You can stay and collect the check until it ends, but for me my time is worth more and interviewing this week for new roles that offer more of a future and opportunity to get promoted, plus much better pay and benefits and the work itself is current times.

I personally am not staying to be played like a s—er.

I totally agree with this post. If you’ve worked here long enough, you see this place for what it is: Smoke and Mirrors at it’s finest.

We are all just trying to ride it out and survive as best we can. Keep your head down and keep collecting your check, but don’t trust trust a word coming from upper management. Everyone here is in it for themselves.
