Thread regarding Wells Fargo & Co. layoffs

In one of his AMAs, SVB mentioned more tech layoffs in 2nd quarter - maybe it includes QA titles as well. Does anyone remember that AMA and could provide details?

Does this include the people in technology who were QAs but their job title changed last year due to some sort of narrowing down of job titles in tech?

Yes totally agree that replacing QA analyst role with Automation Engineers make sense and also will save tons of money

Would be happy if Managers came out in open and decide that manual testers are not needed

This whole upskilling thing is making all QAs attend trainings but need to identify who has the aptitude for coding

I am in QA with a large team and this entire team says they are willing to upskill ( to save their job) but to be honest they have not been doing functional manual testing since years and were playing the QA lead role and now suddenly agree that they can upskill?

Also last year many manual QA contractors were hired with software engineer titles who have no knowledge on coding, and there are people with QA title but can actually code

The question is how will the managers truly identify the correct talent to move towards Wells Fargo's goals ??

Clueless QAs and meaningless fake testing. Testing artifacts are a joke. Get real people. You have been hiding long enough. If you got laid off, it’s about time

Sorry to say, but replacing QA analyst role with Automation Engineers make sense.

Let's take a group with 8 QA Analysts doing manual testing as an example:

1) Convert the most knowledgeable Analyst who truly understands the Application the group supports to an Automation Engineer. This person's knowledge will be very helpfull to new Automation engineers.

2) Convert 1 more manual tester that can upskill to Automation Engineer role.

3) Hire 2 expert Automation testers (in India).

4) Layoff the remaining 4 manual testers. No need to pay severance if they can't upskill.

This plan will save WF tons of money and testing will become more effective and efficient in the long run.

Unfortunately the laid off workers will not be happy about this. But let's be honest, there are more unskilled manual testers in WF than the skilled ones.

Truth is sometimes bitter.

Do you really think they are going to ‘convert’ thousands of qa? Why do that when they need a lot more engineering skills and competencies? Let’s face it, they are systematically getting rid of what they don’t want. First, the ones that don’t ‘hide’. Then, slowly but surely replace the rest.

Our QA guy wasn't really good at it nut they made him a scrum master. whatever the hell that is.

They moved QA positions to India.

@1yhl the answer to your question is: that is why they have 1 and 2 for review ratings. It helps you to get out of your misery

If you were trained and hired as an accountant for an airline and then your airline decided to outsource all accounting and "upskill" all bookkeepers and accountants to pilots, do you want to be on the plane with "upskilled" pilot who never had any desire / inclination / personality traits / aptitude to be a pilot?

Is every human on the planet truly interchangeable and can be "upskilled" into anything?

The question is are they going to convert thousands of QA titles?
QA's are attending trainings but how will you identify who really upskilled?

In Saul ask me anything, he did confirm that manual QA s have to make a decision, either upskill to become automation engineer or look for another job

They only want people who are experienced and good programmers, for every type of job these days.

Some System QA Analysts were renamed into Software Engineers and now are expected to start writing unit tests/automate testing of current stories if not by Q3 most def by the end on 2021. Their 2021 objectives are based on this.... They were advised by management to upskill using Plurasign and any other ways they might think of. Looks like many ppl are being set up for failure.

2. In Digital, all QA managers were "displaced"; however, not in Wholesale... not yet??
3. Rumors are rampant - again, in Digital - there is a huge desire to not have QA titles in the near(est) future. When? Feb 23? Mar 25? People are throwing dates around, but does anyone know besides those who are making these decisions?
4. Rumors are that this is an "HR Decision" - managers have no input as to who stays/who goes. Maybe...?

SQA 3s were retitled into... another drumroll... Systems QA Sr. Analysts.
Exactly what is new in this work title? And what new work do you propose that could refuse to adjust to?

For the benefit of Post ID: @1exr+19u5JuCh: the subject at hand are QA Analysts in Technology - those who test WF systems - not the operations or service or w/e other QA you are talking about.

Have to wonder how this department missed all the fake accounts which were opened no wonder they disappeared or hid for a time after the fake account story broke a few years ago.

It is true. Their managers were let go in Nov-Dec. It is true that some leaders said they will be trained on some dev tasks, but most won't. The QA people on my scrum have not heard anything about training for them and have been depressed for months. They know it's coming.

No. They will be phased into new work titles or if they refuse to adjust to the new work they will over the next few years be let go
