Thread regarding Oracle Corp. layoffs

And TK scores again - Google Cloud posting 1.2 billion operating loss

I can't decide if that's just TK doing what he has always done best or he has been planted there to sabotage Google Cloud. Just joking, the latter option would require more brains than available in Oracle.

OK, I get it now. This is why I have two Google recruiters chasing me. If you want to go to google, now is the time. They are getting desperate over there.

I just love this:

"If they come we will build it" - Oracle

It's the most ridiculous thing that Oracle has ever done. All because LE was an id–t.

We’re not a hyperscale cloud provider and never will be. LE dismissed cloud a long time ago instead of positioning us to become a contender.

Remember what he said?

"Maybe I’m an id–t, but I have no idea what anyone is talking about. What is it? It’s complete gibberish. It’s insane. When is this idiocy going to stop?"

Hyperscalers have to invest billions in infrastructure ahead of customer demand. AWS did it, Azure did it, now Google is doing it.

Oracle isn't a hyperscaler, they won't and can't invest that sort of money. They don't have that much capital, and the CEO is an accountant. The touted "regions" are a few racks in colos, they're not hyperscale.

Google broke out Cloud even though it would show how much it was losing money.

But that's because it would also show how fast it was growing.

As I recall, AWS hid its losses for quite a while as it built up its infrastructure.

But don't worry! We here at Oracle are the winning team!

SO MUCH WINNING! WE'LL BEAT THEM ALL!

The OP is indicative of why most folks at Oracle lack good business sense and why our "investments" are not helping us grow.

"If we compare full-year results for 2018 and 2020, we see that revenue increased 124% over that 2-year period from $5.84 billion to $13.01 billion. But over that same 2-year period, Google Cloud’s loss widened by only 29%, from $4.35 billion to $5.61 billion.

So: in the 2 years since Thomas Kurian has been CEO of Google Cloud and investment in the company has surged, revenue is up 124% but the loss is up only 29%."

What you can be sure of is that once again, he is way, WAY over his head.

The other thing you can be sure of is that only cloud execs worth their salt are at Amazon and MS. Everyone else is posing.
