Thread regarding Wells Fargo & Co. layoffs

I was laid off from Wells Fargo in November 2020, and recruiters are already asking me what I have been doing to keeping my skills fresh!!!

All, I have been laid off for 3 months and recruiters are already asking me what I have been doing to keep my job skills fresh. So ridiculous!

Jeez such complaining... the recruiter is trying to gather whatever information they can use to market you, its not a personal attack on former wells employees.

Recruiters can be a joke sometimes. I left WF a couple months ago. Got a new job by applying to companies open positions directly. Chances of getting an interview are higher because they don’t have to pay a recruiter to hire you ...

this is going to be typical from any company/recruiter, they do want to know what you've been doing essentially. That doesn't mean they wouldn't understand a "break" especially with the holidays in between when you were laid off and now but at least come up with some answers for them is my advice. It's the same thing when you're posting for positions while employed, they want to know "why you're looking" or "what makes you want to leave" and you have to have a thoughtful and careful response to that.

Unfortunately that is common with these people. If they are downgrading you in that initial conversation, they won’t advocate for you so just move on.

yea takes like 2-3 months to recover from working here;

tell them to get lost and enjoy some downtime so you can start a new role fresh

Get used to it, it's a common question. I was laid off, and was actively looking for months. I got a contract role, and as soon as I did there was a noticeable different with recruiters. They were much more interested in me. One told me that contracting, in her opinion, meant I was keeping my skills fresh. Not saying you have to contract like I did, but that bias exists so it's good to plan for it.

Every time someone on this site says they'll hold off looking until they are displaced, I shake my head. Finding a job ain't that easy.
