I see people getting laid off around here and then i see this large D&I organization that seems to be growing. What is purpose of a bunch of headcount being added for this stuff. The company is in trouble and trying to save money. In my area they cut at least 2 of the 8 people. So I just want to understand what is the value add for this stuff. I know there are groups like the Asian group and the LGBT groups, but they more or less just reuse headcount. I have worked a number of companies and have never worked at a more diverse company.

cite. Can no team members communicate clearly and grammatically? It is as if Wells hires only Junior High school drop outs.
Honestly.
No proof anyone is held back in 2021 due to race/s-x, its a load of c-ap. A sorry excuse to blame others.
You site one case and it makes you an expert on being a minority in American business?
I so wish I could turn some of you smug white folks black to see how you feel then.
My best friend and former co-worker is Asian. She spent a few years working for a Japanese company and even with an MBA wasn’t trusted to do more than get coffee basically. She went to an American company and shot up through the ranks. She will freely admit this. Not that she didn’t deserve it but she says she got there faster than anyone else would have with the same skills.
My point is that if you are a minority, it helps you in about any public company in the USA.
Diversity here seems to mean one thing only, probably because the squeaky wheel is getting the grease. I have yet to hear age discrimination or opportunities for people with disabilities, especially in promotions not happening for those folks, being addressed.
I think around the company we should always try and do our best to give people a shot and a fair shake. If anything, I connect less with people of my own race because there’s extra baggage and it’s a bit boring to work with yourself. I’m most concerned though that we’re not brining in more young people into banking. If this place every recovers I think they should make a effort to hire people straight out of school or college. They have older people with a tremendous amount of knowledge that never gets transferred, instead the exec’s here think it’s better to train offshore. If I’m going to train anyone to take my job I rather it be a young American.. Hispanics, Black, Asian, White, than someone in a different country. I hold nothing against people in different countries, but we serve American customers, we should be American, and support the American workforce.
I don't believe people really think only white males are the only ones qualified. It just means now you will automatically assume D&I hire when you see a minority, female, or otherwise hired. Especially in higher positions.
Ahh D&I. Just another stakeholder to make minorities in WF feel good about the company they all work for. You see, Charlie has brought on more and more people. All are white men. I guess JPM and BNY didnt have diverse candidate pools to choose more diverse candidates. Is that unconscious bias??
All I know is that it the D&I teams energized us in Meetings and Event. These people can certainly bring it at events. Most exciting and innovative ideas ever.
Basically should be called fake wokeness... Does how you look make you more qualified to write code or manage a team or fly an airplane? All BS, looks have zero to do with talent, just made up social construct.
It's clear that some here feel the most qualified person for any job is always the white male.
@1emt That’s sad. It should be the best person period. Things such as forced hiring do not help you compete.
It seems companies go from one extreme to another instead of what makes sense. When it goes to the c-suite, I’ll believe they are serious. But I have observed the diversity talk is all well and good until it gets into their neighborhood and keeps them from hiring their cronies.
DEI will create goals (aka quotas) for managers at all levels to attain. Pay performance is tied to these goals. So if I, as a manager, have 3 qualified people for another manager position, and one of those candidates will ensure I reach my quota, er, goal, I will do what is in my best interest and hire that person. Might not be the best person, but will be qualified, which is really hard to judge when interviewing.
Well tech just had a high profile promotion so I guess in her case they did something.

Clear case of apart-height right there. Somebody needs to sue /s
It's a PR expenditure. If people at the top really cared about D&I, they could simply implement via policy and existing LOBs...unless they think the people running the LOBs are racists, I suppose.
"Who gets the job a whit middle aged man, african american man or latino woman if all are qualified but the white man is most qualified? 9 out of 10 times these days it's NOT the white man."
"These days?" So what do you think it was like before?
Humans are diverse despite the color of their skins or their s-x. Once we realize that we are creatures of great depth then we all win together.
If all the manager's were black, would you want them to hire some white men to make the group more diverse?
Trick question, every group of people is diverse. There's never been a group of humans that wasn't.
Bro..... this might be legit, thee best question I’ve Bert seen posted here. Worthless group. Profit centers are getting laid off but we pump money into a group that is basically the drama club of a serious institution.
I was raised to treat a person based on the merits of their character. Martin Luther King Jr taught the same principles and that is what I know to be what generates respect in my mind.
I will never respect a person because of communal guilt designed to assume the best of a person when we all know that people are individuals and good and evil are objective.
Be a good person, treat others with respect and drop this forced morality.
@1xsk+19i0FBw6 You said it perfectly bubba
One of the best bosses I ever had was Black, great manger. I'm white. I personally think this is connected with the election and likely being used as a distraction. You see these D&I departments showing up everywhere. I don't know that they do anything. Do people really feel like racism or exclusion is occurring here, I hope not. I see more regional issues. Like why is there so much hiring in say NC and India and not else where. Or take age, when's the last time you saw someone fresh out of college get hired on, like never.. I see 100's of Indians in some departments get hired with questionable educational backgrounds, is that very diverse..
Amen brother. The powerful vs the rest of the world. Following a similar path it as I'll have $5mm+ easy by my mid fifties, and cleared $1 mm by 40. What theses id–ts don't get us they are getting played. The dems are playing you.
Fools. Do you really think the elite is going to allow the poor to take hold. The DEI stuff is designed to distract the majority of you from reality. It’s not white vs black. It’s the rich and powerful 0.1% against the world. If you have any sense you can learn their rules, play by their rules, and make it. Made my first million by 39. My second this year. Will be worth $5mm plus in the next 10 years.....then, I’m out. I’ll be on some highly diverse island country being served by people that only care about one color....green.
You’re all sheep.
I would say the main issue with diversity is AGE DISCRIMINATION. It's been rampant for the 20 years I've worked here and it's not getting better. How often do you see an older person get promoted? Pretty much never. Maybe if it's a low level supervisor role in a unit they've worked in for years. Other than that, no.
I'll tell you, my honkey interaction has been REDUCED by 90% with this new crew, Talk about a work/life balance!
Interesting that people don't think there is a diversity issue at Wells. When I first got here (about 2 years ago) I immediately noticed every level at LOB head and higher was white, townhalls were all white. Most teams I've interacted with are overwhelming white and no one seemed to notoce. This isn't propoganda, the last company I worked at had a lot more diversity at management levels.
Nothing really. Except you feel guilty for being a white male. That’s all they are here for. Remember, the overwhelming majority of our team are diverse, except C-level offices. Maybe they should be the ones taking training.
I’m not defending the creation of the org, but a lot of the people aren’t new, they were already working in HR.
I’ve never thought WF had a diversity problem at any level except the top, which Scharf has made exponentially worse.
Require laughable trainings, show up for photo ops, and collect inflated paychecks to absolve the company of their PR sins. That whole industry is a racket.
