Can't they see they're doing WF leadership a favor by leaving good money in their pockets? We know thousands of people will be laid off this year. Wouldn't it be a better idea to wait and see if you're one of them rather than just walking away? That's what I'm doing. I don't want to be here any more than most of you do but I'm not shooting myself in the foot in an effort to get away.

Not only is it not the end of the world, it is a heck of a lot better than the 1970s and the misery index. Current times aren’t even a mild challenge from any historical perspective.

Passing up on job opportunities hoping WF will have to pay you severance, then scrambling like mad to find a good role before that severance runs out, is just plain silly. Your severance won't be a blip on finance's radar. Charlie won't lose a lick of sleep over it. The only one who'll suffer is you.

Unfortunately, it's not an "offer" kinda thing.
To the OP... Obviously can't speak for the entire company, but I don't know many who have just "walked away". One or two friends/colleagues decided the toxicity wasn't worth it, especially because they'd decided to leave banking for another industry. But they'd been quietly planning for a while, socking away money and networking.
Everyone else who left voluntarily did so because they found a better job – better comp, culture, W/L balance. Whatever was most critical to them. Not sure why you are assuming they are selling out somehow. Should they pass up a good offer, on the off chance they can "stick it to the man" by making him pay a few months of severance?
Thankfully, revenge isn't everyone's top priority.
I've been with Wells for decades. It wasn't always like this.
Just staying around out of habit mostly. Paycheck is good, and I don't really have much work to do anymore. It's Easy Money.

Think of it this way OP, every person that voluntarily leaves (and isn't replaced) saves a coworkers job. Yes, I'm aware that it doesn't really "work like that" on a micro level, or when whole businesses are going to be exited/sold, but if they have targets for saving $ and attrition helps get to those targets it will help get us there with less layoffs.

I'm walking away with my bonus and a higher salary in a few weeks. I love many of my colleagues, but this place is a Dumpster fire. I'm not letting WF control my future. I've stuck it out long enough.

I lost almost 500k working here over last 4 years; no way am i losing any more for the pennies they will throw my way.

This place wears on you, it's TOXIC! People who bust their A– and do good work, deliver on key initiatives, are left fending for themselves. This place is dog eat dog! They care nothing about employee relations, about morale, about team member engagement, nothing!
So unless you've walked in my shoes of those of others here, reserve judgment. I don't blame anyone for wanting to leave, be it to work elsewhere or take a break! If I were to get laid off here, I'd take 3 to 6 months off and do very little but relax. This place is soul s—ing.
So rather than think of this time as the perfect opportunity for someone who is distressed about staying here to go out and take their time picking and choosing what their next opportunity will be you believe staying here while flopping around in your self-made misery on the off chance you’ll get a package is the optimal choice? You are diluted. You don’t have a grasp of either lost opportunity or have no value of your own personal/mental health.
This is absolutely the best time to look for a new job if you’re done with working at Wells. As of now, unless you have received notice, you have infinite time to search. The “loss” of a severance package is no loss at all.
Severance will do no good if you still don’t have a job afterwards. Why do you think there are so many still unemployed during a pandemic. Think past your nose.
People have mouths to feed and bills to pay .
I can't blame them. I'm looking around. if I can find something, I'm out of here.
