VZPulse Gallup survey

What’s the dillio with the VZ Pulse survey not being anonymous? HR are allowed to view all responses for "research purposes".

It also says there are "no consequences if you choose not to respond", but doesn't provide the same safety net if you do respond!

Do they want honest feedback, or is the survey just a ploy to weed certain people out?

As a former GM with the company... the pulse survey is so employees won’t sue the company. That’s what it all is folks. And what I think is so funny is the survey 500% falls on the GMs shoulders. It’s the GMs fault of the survey is bad, which I think is c-ap. After the survey comes out and we “find out” the info.. the GM goes on a performance plan to “fix the culture” if there is a problem. Folks, it’s Verizon, that’s the problem. If there is a performance problem, upper leaders answer is “Just get it done!”.. or “well, xxx store is doing it. Why can’t you!?” Verizon isn’t a development culture. It’s a who’s who culture.

They see the survey comments and can filter down by title and location... all they care about is participation... Hans can say we are going to work on ... but some leaders don’t have a clue how to fix anything except giving out gift cards and meaningless recognition

HR beats their head against the wall wondering why employees won't recommend working for the company to their friends and family. They even do focus groups to understand the most simplest reason for this type of response... continuous reductions in force. How complicated can that be?

name names and you'll certainly be demoted. all comments, response numbers, percentages, subordinate team results, etc to to director and above. they know who you are and what you are thinking. don't fool yourself. pencil whip it and off you go.

It’s nothing more than a pet project of a pet employee.
Say anything you want, their only concern is response, not content
And it has never been anonymous.

"I reply honestly because I don’t GAF. What are they gonna do, fire me ?"

No, but in certain workcenters, certain individuals in certain job titles are regularly identified/singled out/targeted with undesirable/difficult work as retribution. Appreciate the fact that you may not be experiencing such treatment but be reminded that this sort of thing is as common as the day is long.

The survey is a checkbox benefit for HR and the executive team. Everyone knows job security has been the biggest issue for the last 10 plus years, however RIFs, outsourcing, rebadging, and migrating work offshore continue. The pandemic gave us a chance to catch our breath, but the separations have resumed. Since our leadership views employee skill sets as a commodity that can be purchased at a cheaper cost in the marketplace, these reductions will persist until we have a mostly transient work force. Cost containment is important, but we use it as a means to cover up our inability to devise and execute strategies to grow revenues. Maybe we should become a non-profit entity.

HR Business Partners are not independent of the organizations they support and they provide just enough information to enable management to determine with a high degree of success where the negative feedback originated from. They don't call them partners for nothing.

HR wants honest feedback but they track who you are on the surveys so we logically answer more positively than it really is. Then, they end up high fiving themselves because the surveys show everything is great and they also meet their performance metrics to get their bonuses. It’s a bogus win win for HR and sr executives when they game the results. They know exactly what they are doing and we are the sheep being herded.
