Do I want to lose my job? No. Even with severance, finding something new at this point could be tricky. Still, it would be preferable to this. The ELT has been doing everything in its power to make our lives miserable and it's working. I went from loving my job years ago to being okay with it to actively hating every minute of it now. I can't afford to quit, but a layoff I'd embrace at this point.

Hardly, some companies haven't been allowed by the government to operate at all, "strong" or otherwise. Unless by "strong" you mean giant corporations with the resources to brib....errr....donate to the campaigns of the right politicians.

No one in their right mind wants to get laid off and be without income and health insurance in a pandemic. You think you have it bad now.

@rzm+19WVO7ea, smartest post here. I could never wish for something like that and especially during a pandemic. If you're so miserable, by all means look around but don't hope to get laid off. So many out there would love to be in your shoes.
Seems like this is a problem in other countries too, but we have laws protecting against this here.

Then they turn around and send an email thanking you for your resiliency (throughout all the toxic BS). Can't make this up! I feel the SAME WAY! I would fall to my knees if I was laid off, then go book a tropical 2 week vacation and sit by a beach with a cooler full of beer to work on my tan.
This place is pretty toxic, sadly. Everything is a panic. I deal with a manager who blows EVERYTHING up into something it's not, makes mountain out of mole hills, and puts everyone on edge. Has no skills to be leading people, at all and has had a steady trickle of turnover and they don't seem to care or notice she's had nearly 100% turnover and no real TM tenure. I don't feel they want to know the truth here, hear the truth, or repair extremely damaged relationships with high performers that are p-ss-d.
It's all this culture. HR and ER don't want to listen to people, fix problems, confront poor leaders either. I brought a valid hostile workplace complaint to ER a year ago, and literally the ER rep responded by saying "well, maybe that's just that LOBs culture" after I told her how abusive it was. Can't make this up! No human empathy or relational skills!
Our group was recently hit with spans and layers as well as a migration to new job families. With the org now flatter, and pay bands and bonuses lower on the high end for all levels, they've reduced any incentive to work harder. Upward mobility is now a joke.
We're all stuck where we are, and the only way up is out...

"ELT has been doing everything in its power to make our lives miserable and it's working" , they do in cybersecurity too; they try to mess up your work to making it look like you did it. Try to capture some evidence and keep it for future actions. They are super sloppy and have to do better than this to avoid another massive scandal. Their bad reputation is on your side.
Be careful what you wish for. A lot of people struggling with unemployment in a pandemic.
