Thread regarding Verizon Wireless layoffs

Let's be constructive.

What other jobs could SS be looking at? Companies? Specific jobs? Quick certs we can pair well with our "skills"

I've been a– for 3 years and I joined Verizon straight out of college because I needed money right away and i couldn't wait a year to get a position in my field. I have a degree in psychology, with a double minor in political science and national security. I'm waiting to get a government position and this was an in-between until I secured one. Now I'm on track to lose 15k this year so its time to hit the old dusty trail...actually put my degree to use.

I went from retail sales, to store manager, to regional operations analyst to area operations analyst to laid off during my 15 years with Verizon. I now work in industrial real estate asset management. You can do whatever you want to do. You just have to go through an exercise of writing down your transferable skills and seeing how they apply to new careers. Verizon is a super toxic propaganda machine that also happens to be a human meat grinder. But they have good pay and benefits. That is what I see from the outside. Harder to see when you are on the inside.

Real talk, and nobody wants to hear this, is that wireless retail reps have been getting an increasingly bad rap over the years. If you are looking for an out, it had better be in a field you got a degree for, or get ready to become a solar panel salesman, or insurance salesman, or some other tedious high pressure sales job. You might get lucky and be able to find work at a car dealership also, if that's your inclination. You just need to be prepared to either take your time or settle, because the way wireless retail has treated customers is coming back to bite the employees.

If you like wireless sales look at the cable/internet providers that are looking to get into the wireless game. Like Comcast/xfinity, Cox, spectrum...etc

Really it is dependent on the person. Many SS has college degrees.

You can spin skills from an SS role

Sales, Marketing, Technical support, public relations...

It is an individual's job to figure that out. But doing nothing is not going to fix it.
