Thread regarding Wells Fargo & Co. layoffs

Tech and operations both now 50% India staffed

Quality has degraded significantly.

Tribal knowledge has been eliminated - these india folks cannot think outside the box (or script).

Every code base I've seen produced is a convoluted heap of spaghetti pasted together from stackoverflow. To make matters worse, code reviews are no longer happening at all.

Timezone differences have resulted in missed business opportunites.

The bank only knows cost. Quality is not even measured or accounted for anymore.

Would you want a $10, 2 year "buzzword" graduate performing surgery on you? Thats the equivilent of what wells now has managing operations and technology.

The next disaster event is going to be epic.

@1egf+19N5gue0 that seems logical, but we're dealing with WF leadership. Instead, WF will continue to ramp up the number of Indians. Just like when WF got in trouble because of the risk program, WF didn't correct the program, they just added headcount. That's why WF's headcount is so much higher than any of its peers.

@1dtb+19N5gue0 - you nailed it. They do fine if you give them a list of steps, but the minute you require them to use critical thinking skills, things fall apart. I've been in meetings where senior indian team members get vocal and irate with a manager because they, quote "Don't have a checklist to work from". Not to mention, the way females are treated in that society. I have a personal experience with one of our vendors that dealt with a WF team member in India. he completely dismissed her. She was the most senior person there. He no longer works for WF.

The Indian offshore resources actually are far better educated than the San Francisco born and raised workers. In the other hand the Indian offshore workers are held back by the caste system and supporting culture which tends to make them overly subservient and afraid to offer better ways. It takes careful management, but you can grow an offshore team into a highly effective team.

Quite true, especially old white male lives. That’s certainly been the case and trend ever since I started in NY banking 40 years ago. The difference now is that it is no longer hidden, nor is it limited to the NY banks where it first surfaced. It’s now endemic to financial services.

Hoping for a package in lieu of reparations.

The truth is that India education is significantly better than the failing San Francisco schools, not just high school and lower, but college level as well. Let’s not pretend for one moment that the Silicon Valley tech industry is fueled by the best of the best from flyover country.

I will take India based OPS over California based OPS any day, and all of us who are being honest would. Simply read the posts here and witness the convoluted grammar, nonsensical rambling sentences and near complete misunderstanding of he relationships between HR, Payroll, benefits, bonuses, the IRS and the Federal government. We seem to have real issues with getting quality people.

I have plenty of experience with EGS staff and contractors.

The amount of BS coming out of the bad ones is amazing. I looked up the resumes of the ones I couldn't stand working with and they completely fabricate what they were doing for us and their job title. It's not even remotely close to what they actually did.

The good ones don't BS on their job roles, so they fall behind. It's literally .con boom over there.

They have good ones, it's just the good ones get trampled on by the ones who lie to get ahead. Same as it is here.

This is happening at every company. I agree it's a complete disaster. The offshore work quality is poor and has to be fixed. I wonder why the knuckle heads that run these companies continue to put their customers at risk.

If they can program a decent search engine for the teamworks home page they'll be doing better than the domestic team has in the last couple of decades. Seriously, it's the worst search function that's ever been on the internet and it never gets any better.

Quality has been ignored for about two years now. Test environments in tech are only available for use about half the time because of issues. Rework is k–ling us. But now one of any importance says anything to the offshore team supporting that the last couple of years because it is cheap. Funny we had rare issues before that. What is even funnier is they are pushing agile and automation in this environment. Of course, those in the nose bleed section don’t know how things actually work because those MBA graduates never actually DID the job.

I called it back when they went to this model. But then again, I have seen this before. It is just a bad rerun to me.

I think there’s a false stereotype that all Indians are smart. They are smart because they study manuals all day long but when it comes to critical thinking and problem solving, they require a playbook or list of steps to follow. Without the proverbial answers given to them, they deflect or delegate the work elsewhere. Eventually they’ll get smart but it’s through copying and imitating people/thoughts here.

Ummm, it's no joke on understanding them. I always ask them to repeat things. Must be annoying to them.

LOL. Banks aren't tech companies. They don't need you to think outside the box, just do your job. I guarantee you the customers and clients don't care a bit, it's a bloody bank.

You'd think after the SolarWinds hack (tl;dr - Russians hacked an IT firm and they sent out infected code to clients) that code reviews from offshore workers would be prioritized. But hey, keep sipping the coffee.
