Thread regarding Wells Fargo & Co. layoffs

Why do managers hate their employees so much?

I've noticed this is not a one off-thing, it seems to be the norm around here. Is there any particular reason or are most of the managers just your run-of-the-mill a–holes?

It’s “sabotage”. “sabatage” is a type of Ukrainian cabbage which is mostly useful in clearing out a workplace lunchroom.

And yes, they walk among us...

From the posts here, it really just seems to be that they’re making an effort to get in step with all of us workers.

We don’t hate our employees, in fact we care a great deal about them. What we don’t like are policies that ensure poor performers and leave abusers stay on the job indefinitely while their team members and managers have to do their work

As for senior leadership far removed from the front line? They’re too impersonal to care. It’s all dollars and cents.

Wells Fargo managers are utterly incompetence and greedy showman. They ignore employee questions or give speeches and talks that are all puffrey. They blame on employees that are not our faults. No one is interested in your fake presentations and chronic lies these corrupt Wells Fargo managers are paid so much while still big problems in Wells Fargo. Disgrace !

Never had a manager that I felt hated me.

I have had great managers here but they are all gone now. Those who advocated for their people got a copy of the home game. Those left are all corporate shills or people Chuckles and his crew brought in from Chase. Either way, they don’t have your interests at heart.

to previous poster, there are a couple guys in infosec that do this, but they are championing use of spell check for sure! They have absolutely no skills to be in that department. That is their only choice to hold on to this job as long as possible by destroying others work so they are not appearing the worst, when they really are. They will never be employed anywhere else in tech/infosec once they are layed off here.

our group is like stack rankings and everyone try to sabatage your work to give them a few more points to go higher on the rating scale so they look better than others. Even though they have no knowledge, so the ratings are fake.

Based on stack rankings its in their best interest. I personally dont do this, but think it may be a requirement now.

I've only had great managers here. I know a lot of good managers and they far outnumber the bad managers

"like most companies managers have retention percentage, but here the displacement percentage is what helps them earn their bonus and be the top manager."

This may be a 'thing' in certain parts of the company, but it is not the standard across the enterprise. I'm a manager, and my bonus is in no way based on whether I retain or displace anyone. It depends on the LOB.

My manager doesn’t hate us, as long as we don’t make him work. Don’t ask questions, cover for the lazy people, and praise him to his manager, and you’re gold.

like most companies managers have retention percentage, but here the displacement percentage is what helps them earn their bonus and be the top manager.

This should help you see it is in their best interest to get you to hate your job and want to leave. This is the new head of displacements strategy that was implemented.

I know I faced this torture personally.

As a manager, this is pretty disheartening. I do actually care, and try to advocate for my team, so I hope they would say the same. That being said, WF has a lot of fat to trim, among management and individual contributors. Being a low level manager here is pretty much just executing the plan of someone 3-4 levels (or more) above you, being the first point of escalation, and for many managers, also doing work. At least in my org, bottom level managers usually (there are some) don’t just manage, they also have actual work product.

False premise this house of cards is built on, it seems. There's thousands of managers at WF, maybe you've been unlucky and got some bad apples, but that doesn't mean that the rest 'hate their employees'.

O way that’s HR with this c-ap “ So long as the manager turned a blind eye and did as they were told (which was how many employees were selected for management), they got to collect their substantial salaries and bonuses.”

On the internet nobody know that you’re a dog.

You can tell they actually are in HR because they wrote all that without saying anything.

WF HR here. The OP has come up with a gross generalization. There are so many factors that come into play.

Suffice it to say that it really depends on your line of business and how tenured your manager is. I will say that many managers were selected during a time when WF was growing and could basically do no wrong. So long as the manager turned a blind eye and did as they were told (which was how many employees were selected for management), they got to collect their substantial salaries and bonuses.

Of course, everything took a turn for the worse when WF received its asset cap from the Federal Reserve. That is when many managers were actually called upon to perform. And that is when many managers demonstrated that they were never worthy of their manager jobs to begin with. It's no different with FEMA and its political appointees. Everything is just fine until an actual natural disaster strikes the country. It's only then that we get to see how incompetent many of these appointed managers really are.

Post ID: @ogq+19CiBcVl That’s been my experience as well. These types of shift work jobs have never been career track jobs, nor do they require serious education. I often wonder why they work in financial services at all. There are many far higher paying blue collar jobs, often union jobs.

They are trying to execute the master plan from Chainsaw, he wants everyone's lives miserable, manager that gets the most employees that quit on their own win;

This is a hunger games type thing, the execs watching on the big screen, placing bets. Pretty sick. May help if you watch the first 2 movies on it this weekend to get an idea of what to expect.

My past experience managing people would tell me this. Having managed bank tellers, warehouse employees, and other shift employees, many are unreliable, can’t communicate well, probably complained more about work then actually working, quit but never provide notice, highly argumentative all the time with short tempers, are always late (over an hour), some fight/argue with coworkers causing many good ones to leave. The most goes on and on. Today I don’t manage people anymore and all I can say I try to not add more drama on my boss’ plate. It’s far too easy to managers to hate their employees but theres usually a compelling reason

My experience seems to be unusual because I've had 7 managers over the course of 14 years, and most were excellent. They provided useful coaching and opportunities. A couple were just ok, but definitely not bad.

This is actually a great question, and one that spans all industries, and all companies that have "executive leadership teams." The hate (and to be fair, there are good souls who are in EL positions) comes from a mindset that you are replaceable scum. You are a necessary evil in the company. Your are a tool to be used, a lever to be pulled. Your total compensation is only what it is because it's also what the competition down the street pays similarly for their "tools." They hate the fact that they have to pay you anything. Up the them, you'd be in camps and pay you enough for the basic necessities and house you in camps (just like they do in China). They love power and they want more of it over you. You are not "family," they don't really "care" about you. That's all fluff BS. You should reciprocate the view. The company is a tool to get what I want. That's how I see it. Do what you can to enhance your marketable skills, keep your resume current. Use any and all corporations as a mean to an end, because that's what they do with you.

your absolutely right, I see same thing in our group and place is toxic beyond belief. They also like to not give info to employees to be successful

This place s—s working here; This is also at exec level even worse. The execs and management all junior and in over their head is issue
