Thread regarding Wells Fargo & Co. layoffs

You aren’t a number to those who matter.

Wow...sat through another corporate circle jerk. Where leaders say change is hard and broadcast it from million dollar homes. It is what it is.
The constant work extra than what you were hired for mantra is draining folks. Employees whisper the apathy spreads.

Remember one thing colleagues.
You aren’t a number to those that actually matter in life. Your kids. Your family. Your boss (I’m lucky enough where I have a kind boss). Your friends.
So if it is decided that you aren’t part of the corporate life- remember who does matter.
I love you hard working mother f—ers.
You guys did the work to remove consent orders.
You matter. Things will be ok in the long run.

Agreed. You're saying what the 'I work to live, not live to work' / 'don't call me on Friday' crowd doesn't want to hear. It's the truth though. WFC can have dead weight or it can be an efficient high-performance enterprise. There's no getting both, not in this industry. In the decade after we merged with Wachovia we should have been slowly slimming down every year where it made sense and largely with attrition. Instead we maintained a 'keep everyone we can' mindset until the inefficiency got so bad that now we have to make major changes. It's unfortunate, but there's no other option now. 8 years ago you could have started reducing the size of the company in a much less disruptive manner, so I blame the previous CEOs. People can hate on CS all they want, but the board wasn't going to bring in anyone that wasn't willing to reduce the headcount...so it was happening regardless of which CEO they selected.

I worked hard in 2020 and got a huge bonus and more responsibility.

The new Wells cares about the top performers. No more participation trophies. If you are dead wood the message is “move along now”. As it should be.

WF HR here. We LOVE it when employees (team members) say stuff like the OP here. It helps take employees minds off the fact that we don't want employees to leave until the bank is ready to lay you off. It helps immensely when it comes to continuity of service.

As for your boss not seeing you as a number, the truth is they actually do. There are so many managers worried that they will not make the cut as the span and control number keeps rising. And they are right about that.
