Thread regarding Wells Fargo & Co. layoffs

My new plan

At this point, I plan to do as little as possible. Keep smiling and nodding, while doing as little as possible. They love their yes-men, so it will take them years to figure it out if they ever do. They are too focused on themselves, and too arrogant to think it could happen under their own spectacular new leadership, so I think I can get by with it for years.

I worked hard up until, maybe, 2 years ago. Gave 100%, and have gradually gotten less and less back for my efforts. Am watching management figure out how to get the most work out of the least amount of people. Am watching management jigger with performance ratings and rankings and benefits, all in an effort to stick it to their own employees. Creating a Hunger Games environment. Charlie gets $36,000,000, but no raises for people over $150K. Really? Sending American jobs offshore.

Hey, I’ve learned at the hands of the masters. You like the yes-men, the glad handers, the people who blow smoke up your rears and s— up to you? That’s what you’re going to get.

Either way, it’s a win-win for me. They figure it out: I get my package. They don’t figure it out: I’m not giving too much of myself to people who don’t appreciate it.

They think they can bully employees in to better performance? They think they can create an environment of fear over losing your job to get better performance? It doesn’t work that way. At least not with me.

I'm guessing that the OP's manager won't be able to tell the difference between the "New Plan" and the level of performance prior to it. Just a hunch.

"Don’t be a yes man. Be the best man."

After about 18 years here, I can personally attest that in Wells Fargo this frequently doesn't pay off.

What does ICS stands for?

I moved into ICS and all the guys there did was do everything as manual as possible; this way wasting company money. Pathetic, no one should be doing things this way. Hopefully Charlie clean out the middle management there.

Op I agree 100%

I plan to throw my co-workers under the bus every chance I get. Step on them and step over them while actually not doing any real work myself. I will take credit for any good things they do and get ahead like that.

Love this forum and all the great ideas on here.

OP and @1eii+198z6sGs, you both have the right outlook; i was thinking how dumb the IT jobs are here, but your outlook is right on. Ill take this strategy up pretending I am just way too busy!

Leader and follower relationships are always shifting. And you better be on the right side of the shift.

The truth is that those “leaders” who benefit from their supporters will only do so as long as it’s in their own best interest. The minute they no longer need you, they will quickly turn on even their most loyal supporters and kick you to the curb.

Charlie makes no effort to act like he cares about his employees. I’ll give him that- at least he doesn’t pretend to be something he isn’t.

And there’s a very good chance that he will see to it that he benefits at all costs. And he has no problem with stepping on his own employees to get ahead in life. If that’s who you want to support, then you get what you get.

Hey OP, I've been doing that for years. Totally agree with your win-win conclusion.

It is easy to make 5 minutes of work appear to be 10 hours worth, especially to managers and "scrum masters" who haven't got a clue. Attend one silly meeting a day, and bow out of another meeting every so often, while claiming to be "too busy to attend" and you're golden!

Am so close to retirement now that I don't care if they catch on. They give me a package? Great! They fire me outright? Fine! But until then, the paychecks will just keep rolling in.

CHA-CHING!

Respectfully, this is a site for employees being concerned about WFC laying off 25% of their employees for no fault of their own. So it is perfectly natural and expected that those people would have anger and lean towards negativity. I think Charlie would expect this going in, and probably isn’t bothered by it.

But it is not expected that the employees who want to support Charlie and Wells Fargo would want to stand up for him using childish insults. I would think you would want to make him proud, not embarrass him. I would think Charlie would expect you to be professional and rise above it.

I find it odd that the majority of people posting are still working. I thought this site was about those that were laid off.

Actually it's the "charlie haters" spewing 90% of the insults on this forum. It's not even close. They also love to claim that anything and everything is a sign of someone being a "charlie supporter". Someone says "the sky is blue", and a bunch of people call them 'yes men', 'charlie supporters' etc.

Personally I'm largely indifferent about the CEO. We've all seen them come/go. Some are better than others, it is what it is. The strategic direction of the company is impacted by the CEO, but they aren't alone, there's the board and all the people that report to the CEO. If they make bad strategic decisions it negatively impacts all of us. When they make good ones, we all benefit. I don't lay awake at night thinking about the CEO. Got better things to do.

There really is an extremely unhealthy obsession with Charlie around here.

Charlie is not the greatest CEO I have ever seen but he did pretty good yesterday in terms of looking out for the little guys.

Everyone I have spoken to said they got more $$ than they anticipated.

The “Charlie-supporters” out here, who respond with name-calling and insults and attempts at shaming are not true Charlie supporters and are not really pro-WFC. They may or may not work at WFC, but their goal is to troll.

Anyone who really wants to support Charlie would respond professionally with the goal of representing him in the manner he would prefer to be represented.

I worked hard last year. I got a gigantic bonus yesterday and a ton of genuine appreciation from my peers and manager

So all you victims on here can keep slacking off and the rest of us who do actually show up to our job every day will keep raking in the rewards

Don’t be a yes man. Be the best man

WFC is a losing proposition for everyone involved right now, except for the 20 or so Senior Leaders.

It’s a fools game. Work harder, and you may or may not get to keep your job.

Has anyone else noticed that the Charlie supporters out here, for the most part. resort to name calling and bullying? Very few of them can string together a sentence without resorting to insults. That, in and of itself, does not speak too highly for the future of Wells Fargo.

It doesn't matter how hard you work if the firm is still losing. The firm has been shrinking over the last three years at least so comp funding is less as well

Charlie is going to turn this place in to the Walmart of the banking world. Dumb it down to the basics. Be mostly comprised of low-wage workers who management can lord over and control. The execs benefit and the shareholders benefit. But the employees all hate working there and are doing the bare minimum.

I don’t blame OP either. Charlie doesn’t bring out the best in anyone. Or any organization.

I’m watching very good managers being put in a terrible position by Charlie. What do you do? Managers have to choose between putting their own family at risk by not playing up to Charlie, and letting go of their own hand-picked employees. One manager is a friend, and he has an opportunity to get out of his management role and go in to a project management position, but he is worried about “leaving his team to the wolves”.

Yes - it is a business, I realize that. But businesses are made up of people. Either you are smart enough to bring out the best in your people, or you treat them like a number and see where they gets you.

I am putting out a fair day’s work for a fair day’s wage, but I have so much more to give. You can’t force people in to giving their best. You have to have the leadership qualities that brings it out in them.

OP, I don't blame you one bit. I know many who are doing as you are.

However, I don't recommend it. Not for Wells Fargo. But for your own best interests.

At some point, you are going to find another job at a much better company, making much more money.

The last thing you want to do is dull your capabilities by letting them atrophy here. You want to keep your skills as sharp as possible for that eventual moment when you find that better job.

I am in the exact same place. They have invented the rules of the game. The rules of the game are: You give us more, we give you less, and you have a 25% chance of losing your job no matter what.
