Thread regarding Wells Fargo & Co. layoffs

Branch operating call

Anyone have any insight on this and how it is going to affect the branches? I heard simplification of rolls and titles. Will there be compensation changes?

Do business specialist become Personal Bankers?

Relax... no demotions.

Yes, Lead Tellers become Tellers. Yes, the other roles are simply a Personal Banker or Specialty Banker (Relationship Banker (licensed), Premier Banker, or Small Business Banker). Your pay won’t change unless you were making more than the new increased range. This is highly unlikely unless you were previously in a higher paying position (like a manager stepping down to a Lead Teller or something like that). Sooo if you are a title queen.. sure you might feel like your being demoted, but you still will be a higher paid teller with approval authority. They did this because LTs barely did approvals nationwide after the teller limits were increased.

What does that mean for a Service Manager? Less approvals will be needed, less need for operational tasks since the tellers can do this in their own. Tellers will be able to do more on they’re own and high performing tellers will be able to have approver certifications. A lot of other banks operate like this currently. This will give Service Managers more time to do more admin tasks like coaching, supporting the BM, or even helping the platform in general. They can even run a cash drawer when needed.

It makes sense. Service Managers complain they can’t be a coach because of how much they run a drawer or do back ops. There’s no excuse now. Lol

As for personal bankers.. all will help the same customers which makes segmentation a lot easier. No more of this nonsense trying to get your PB1s to hand off high value customers or business customers to the PB2s. Customer has $100k or less? Personal Banker; $100k or more? Specialty Banker. Easy.

Also not every branch needs a Specialty Banker as highlighted on the call... Some branches will have to refer customers to branches with a specialty banker if a customer needs their service. So maybe after all this, not every branch would need a dedicated Service Manager either.. especially in some of the branches with lower teller transactions. No need to pay a Svm at those locations when the tellers can do it all and where the BM have more time on their hands.

I think there’s enough turnover in the SVM role that it shouldn’t have a huge impact as far as layoffs are concerned. I just expect them to roll out changes for Branch Manager and Service Manager in Q2 or Q3 once all of our employees get used to their new role and responsibilities.

What do you mean by simplified in terms to positions for bankers roles?

Lead Teller position is going away. Instead of getting layed off, appreciate your 30 min drive. Listen to a podcast or some tunes to inspire your day. All bankers roles are simplified as well.

They said existing premier banker 1s will be retained and allowed to promote after two years in role - based on performance at the end of two years. The position will also require a series 7 & 66. If you cant get those you will be terminated.

I think it’s just going to be premier banker. I am not sure how you “promote” to get the extra compensation like before to go to the premier 2. If anyone knows i would like to know too!

Please tell me this isn’t true I gave up a 5 minute drive for a 30 minute one just to be promoted to lead teller.
