After almost 20 years with indirect laid off with a phone call. Severence package is nice but starting over at my age is going to be tough

Also, they laid off almost all male employees! HR is blaming it on a third party.
I have almost 13 years with corporate and received notice of the ax on 1/21. Nevertheless, I was on STD/FMLA receiving the notice (subsequently, due to the news, preterm labor and my twins were born a couple days later). Crazy to think I am restarting life with newborns.
Get into the partner side. You have the knowledge of Verizon operations. Much more freedom and basically no fear of massive annual layoffs. Research Verizon co-sell partners and put your knowledge to use.
Not an associate here but....it does not happen like this in a union side....think about it
30 years and was informed on a phone call by another DM that my position along with many other of my co workers I later found out was happening. 4 of 7 on our team were let go.
What was the severance package?
This is terrible! So many in Retail and Indirect impacted. Get your network going. Take a breath! There will be life outside of VZ if you try. It might now be indirect but that channel along with retail has been dying. Agents didn’t miss a beat with all their access now. They even look and feel like a Corp store because in some areas, they are. I wish the best.
I am 67 and still finding jobs, i have had two jobs since laid of 12/17. Now working on a start date with my third. Anything is possible
*took VSP in 2019, not last year - before I get flamed. Sorry, 2020 was a blur for us all!
Sorry to hear this. Indirect accounted for a large portion of my career at VZW. I took the VSP last year. There are (and were) lots of incredibly talented, hard-working people in the Indirect Channel. VZ was good to me - best of luck and there IS life after Verizon.
Sorry to hear. You will land on your feet. Stay positive.
