Thread regarding Wells Fargo & Co. layoffs

Wells Fargo workloads

Just curious if anyone else is being buried in work (4X) hoping you simply resign? Its so obvious that this is their key strategy moving forward.

I’m being buried in work because senior leadership in compliance keeps coming up with extra busy work and documentation and tight deadlines, none of which are anything but actual window dressing. My real work is what keeps the job interesting and satisfying for me but these weird initiatives and constantly changing goalposts from the CSO teams is creating so much havoc and confusion even though the majority of the asks are simply documenting items. The problem is all the documentation is micromanaged by QA teams, creating more back and forth and confusion and it doesn’t help that you get the sense a lot of these people wouldn’t make it a day actually making decisions about regulatory impact. I think compliance deservedly gets a bad rap for many people who sit on phone calls all day long with no accountability but that’s not all of us and for those of us who do the work, we now have to do it in four different iterations with direction from competing and power hungry senior directors from different groups who I sometimes doubt even know what they’re doing. But that’s my experience as a relative newbie to WF, maybe others are finding the additional asks just BAU.

A similar but different issue on my team.

Facing layoffs a few years ago, our management started taking over work done by teams that were let go.

Now my daily work is nothing like what I signed up for, and I can't stand it.

I am now doing work that has very little to do with my actual career.

So they didn't pile work on us to get us to quit, but they've made our jobs horrible by helping to keep us employed.

Only at Wells Fargo.

And yes, I'm looking elsewhere.

@1kcd+18c2DNda, you should be worried as sounds like you are training others to do your job; your manager may not know if group will be here in future or is not telling you bad news.

I am training others on my team to do 90% of my daily work. Our management won’t give us a firm answer on what we will be doing next year and they keep talking about agile but my title doesn’t fit into an agile team. Should I be worried? Right now I’m doing work that is far below what they are paying me.

Not buried in work but a lot of systems and procedures are changing at once without adequate preparation and there is literally nobody who understands how things are going to work. In some cases they replaced an automated process with another automated process that doesn’t work so we end up doing it manually. Some days this frustrates me and I work on workarounds and escalations until I can find somebody who knows something. Some days I just shrug and coast for the day. Our manager doesn’t even fully understand the process yet and is empowering us to solve the problem. So if anything I have less quantifiable work but It’s more chaotic and feels more busy.

I am doing the work that three people did earlier in the year. They left for other positions in WF and I am stuck doing it all. Since there are no open positions anymore that pretty much says it.

My group of 7 has gone down to 4 as people have left over the last year. Everyone's workload has gone up to pick up the slack and those positions are not being filled. Personally, I am putting in 60+ hours most weeks and working 6-7 days a week just to keep my head above water. I've been looking to get out for about 6 months. You better believe I will ramp up my search when/if I get a bonus. Speaking just for my group, we are at a breaking point. If our workload increases any more, people will just start leaving.

My group has the opposite problem.

Our work volume hasn't increased since last year, so now my manager is freaking out that we're becoming a target even though our volume is supposed to go up as we're preparing to take on what was formerly a peer team's work. That is in spite of his manager telling the entire group we were done with cuts through the EOY.

They are already working out how to put tighter controls on the work we do so that less volume at a time can be done, resulting in less staffing need.

Nothing to do but bide your time or find a way out.

Yes i have it too plus co-workers do unethical things to make themself look better. That is definitely their goal.

Thing is this place is miserable, I dont like my job any longer, so i have been able to get a new job at JP Morgan.

1sdz - it’s pretty clear that the OP is saying they are trying to avoid layoffs and work you like a dog to get you to quit. Then they don’t have to pay severance.

what does this have to do with layoffs?

WFH means you work 24/7.

It’s the opposite for me. I don’t have enough work and am being left out of all things agile. I see the writing on the wall.

Ditto. Also in Mktg. Need to get better at prioritization, especially with large-scale layoffs coming in Q1 2021.

Something has to give – you can't have high demand for business support while reducing resources. Unless LOBs have appetite to start gliding budget $$ for support to cover their high demands, they'll need to seriously reevaluate the work. Basic math.

Yep I can attest to that in Marketing. Apparently Agile means you work 24/7
