Thread regarding Wells Fargo & Co. layoffs

Wells Fargo Code of Ethics Hotline

My manager was hosted by a vendor to an all expenses paid trip to the Master golf tournament a few years ago including a round of golf at Eastlake and transportation on the vendors private jet. I am now being laid off by this manager. Should I report him the code of ethic hot line?

I think you meant to type “then compromise quality”, not “than compromise quality”

Wells Fargo bank is still conducting business by pressuring employees, with unrealistic goals and intimidating tactics for employees to meet goals. Similar to the fake account scandal, managers are using high pressure tactics on mortgage loan underwriters to produce more loans, tying incentives to production and threatening to fire employees if they don’t meet the goals. Goals are unrealistic and a very small percentage of workers are able to meet these goals. The underwriters than compromise quality to rush through files by cutting corners in hopes they don’t get audited. As long as the bank can sell these agency loans to Fannie and Freddie Mac, the company does not care about risks or anything else. Meetings are held almost on a daily base to continue the pressure for underwriters to be faster with their decisions. Employees are often taking medical leave. It is a true sweat shop slavery!

Tsys was the vendor and was a golf outing reward for a new contract

First off, this is petty. You In fact are just as unethical for not reporting. And to suggest that your manager laid you off and not Wells Fargo as a company is silly. I suggest you retake the ethics training and consider another job. Honestly I just hope your not a real person.

Considering the layoffs using the pandemic as an excuse to get cheaper and export American jobs overseas, I think ethics went out the door. After all, there are no more vision and values. Definitely no vision and obviously no values.

I’m one of the people mentioned by the OP. He deserved the layoff, and is now retaliating. Little does he know this could affect his package... Everything was pre-cleared and signed off.

how's that work, you get laid off and now you want to call an ethic hotline on your boss for playing golf years ago?

Good luck with your scorched earth, tantrum throwing policy on the way out the door

@1jze "Just learned about it" as in, you have not proof. It's hearsay. (Or gossip, if we're being honest here.) Maybe it was approved, maybe not. It's several years later, and you're hearing about it second hand which is risky for you, and any complaints now probably won't impact the EVPs.

You really need to ask yourself why you are making an issue of this now, on your way out. Feels like spite, which isn't a good look. Channel your energy into finding your next role, hopefully at a company with stronger ethics.

Don't waste your time calling the hotline, reporting to ER or to HR. Unless you have IRREFUTABLE EVIDENCE you will be ignored.

It was several years ago, and you only report it now that you have been displaced? You'll just look vindictive, and you have no idea of the circumstances. Maybe it was approved.

The world, and our industry, is remarkably small. Don't burn bridges.

You should report the situation. That said, I'm glad you are leaving our company. You should have had the integrity to report it in the first place. We don't need people like you.

Bypass ethics hotline and report to Fed regulators / senators who would actually investigate

OMG, your boss played golf.....Everyone....a Major Crime has occurred.
Collect your package and leave and stop being a pathetic loser, that's why you likely got let go.

Would the vendor risk their relationship with WF? They have way more to lose than the WF employees.

Then you should report it to EthicLine. It's the right thing to do, even if you are not staying. However, please be aware that nothing may change. I've seen other employees "raise their hand" when they saw credible violations (in one case with proof) and nothing to little changed. In both cases, the manager is still working at WF.

I just learned about this unethical trip, by two WFC EVP’s to the Masters in 2016, with a side trip to play at Eastlake and a flight on private. Jet to the Masters. None of this was pre approved.

No way he didn’t get pre-clearance before taking this trip. And, why would he ever announce that to the team? He doesn’t have to. I’m with the previous poster, if you thought it was unethical back then you were obligated to call then.

I don’t think this was pre approved. And two EVPs are implicated in TM.

Petty.

All of what you listed can be pre-cleared and possibly was.

But funny how you never cared back then, but you do now all of a sudden...

Remember in many instances the manager may not have a say in who gets laid off. I don't think retaliation would be the best thing for you. Karma is a beech

The code of ethic hotline is way to report unethical activity without giving your name and being retaliated against. So I would go ahead and report.

If you didn’t think it was ethical, you are obligated to report it when you become aware. Did you just find out, or are you retaliating? Seems you might be cited for failure to report. I’d hate to see you lose your package.

How do you know they never got a pre-clearance? You've done the training right. Better question is why you think it's any of your business? Sorry you're getting laid off but trying to throw your manager under the bus, even if warranted, isn't going to help.
