Thread regarding Wells Fargo & Co. layoffs

reply all

I love how when a large group of people accidentally get an email the number of people that reply all and tell everyone to stop replying all. Common sense folks. Perhaps they should be the ones on the chopping block. Now time to go delete the 200+ reply all's I have in my inbox.

Fixed it for you, ref #6.

  1. Amused and otherwise happy people extending good tidings
  2. Confused people who haven’t figured out there is obviously a technical glitch
  3. Angry people who cannot tolerate any extra email at all
  4. mo–ns who reply all telling people not to do what they just did
  5. Everyone else who is either amused or slightly annoyed setting up an auto delete rule or just deleting
  1. People who know better than to Reply All, but do it anyway because they enjoy throwing more gas on the fire.

I'd make a hashtag of #IMINGROUP6 if I knew what hashtags were.

That happened years back but literally the entire company got the email congratulating some guy named Brian on a new position or something. It backed up out email for days, ended up on the news and even got its own hashtag. #whosbrian! Everybody kept replying to all to tell everybody to stop replying to all. It was hilarious!!

"Caused by a distribution list error though no fault of the original sender." And that's why you don't use email for sensitive documents, attachments, and broadcast. Fortunately it wasn't bad news inside a leadership group.

I got a kick out of that Executive Vice President who "Replied All" saying that he thought he was sent the email by mistake.

Then a short time later that same EVP "Replied All" AGAIN saying that another one was sent to him by mistake.

@3log

We rely on many vendors to do our business. Exchange, from Microsoft, is our email platform. Along with thousands of other companies. With the number of people complaining about our technology, it should be a good thing that we are using up to date tools. Right?

Plus, this event was because of some configurations.

All of you that were calling for the sender to be fired, I hope you feel stupid now. I doubt you will, but you should.

Reliance on an outside vendor, per teamworks. Is that good?

I actually thought it was kind of awesome that Teamworks posted a story on this, but to each their own!

Apparently Teamworks had nothing better to talk about with thousands of people worried about their jobs than this.

I did think about replying all too just to hopefully get my name in the layoff hat (in case they are basing any part of layoffs on competence), but decided I wanted no part of it.

There was a back end glitch that resulted in the email going to the global distribution. The original sender didn’t try to use the global distribution list. Turned out to be a very happy or annoying accident, depending on your perspective.

Microsoft rolled out reply-all storm protection about a year ago. Hopefully one of our hapless Exchange administrators will learn about it soon.

Was it a joke...or was it a more nefarious deed sending that stupid Happy Birthday email. Was it a distraction so someone could get into the system or insert a virus or hack into the system? Or, was it some complete mo–n or someone that got the ax? We may never know.

Still trying to understand how it happened. Based on the original e-mail, the sender sent the e-mail to two distributions, neither of which seem to include all employees. I saw an e-mail regarding a space in a rule, but I don't understand that explanations. I mean, I understand the concept of rules, but...

Geez, some of you calling for people to be fired... I am sure you are 100% perfect at your job. If the person genuinely did this by accident, then they should not be fired.

Why you so angry? If getting 200 emails sends you over the edge, you may want to look into taking some PTO and reflect on life.

They need to research who added those groups and fire them.

Most end users don't know half of what their apps can do, but maybe the managers who are replying want everyone to see them saying happy bday to someone.

Because it's a good look for them.

Happy Friday everyone.

Hey @pbv+18O3FDg7,

BCC stands for Blind Carbon Copy, meaning the people you email can't see who else you sent it to.

You're getting the emails because you're on a DL, a distribution list.

I'm on that list too and I was clearly added by mistake, it looks like a lot of people were.

Seriously, some of the folks here mocking the people saying happy bday claiming they don't know how to use email don't know how to use email themselves and should be more humble.

I'm IT, I used to run MS Exchange servers, exactly how do you think we can stop people from emailing?

It's not a virus or malware or a hack, it's just people saying happy bday.

Do you think IT folks read all the email?

You write code? Are you sure? I call BS.

It amazes me that 225 posts later, the IT people haven’t shut it down. I can’t get any code written today because I am in hysterics.

How did that even work? If it can’t have been bcc’d, then why am I getting emails when I’m not on the to: list and am not even authorized to send mail to the two groups?

Yeah, pretty sloppy and insipid email to begin with, but WF group email distribution lists are poorly maintained, poorly designed and difficult to use unless you are very familiar with specific lists and very careful in selecting.

This is actually an interesting sociological window into WF employees, the breakdown is this

I think the issue is Wells did not provide enough training for these people on using Corporate email; hope HR can come up with a whole series of mandatory training videos on using and sending emails and the business etiquette

right click on the email and click ignore, then click ok. it will send all associated emails to the deleted folder.

If they used BCC then this wouldn't happen, you can't reply all to BCC.

No wonder I'm still getting these emails after 3 hours.

No one will be put on any disciplinary action for these, it's just a mistake, not an offense.

Yes, they are deleting emails with real names, I said happy bday to the person on the emails in a post here and it's gone.

I also said it felt like 1997 again, where people didn't know how to use the electronic mailing system.

It's embarassing but no one's getting fired for it.

Common sense, por favor.

Create a rule with the Subject info as the search criteria and move the e-mails into your Deleted Items folder. Now, you won't see any of the e-mails. I think there is an option to delete the e-mail upon arrival, also.
