Thread regarding Wells Fargo & Co. layoffs

I have an idea. Let’s outsource the whole company.

The idea is to make as much money for shareholders as possible. Wells only cares about cost-cutting and profits, the more the better. Well then, let’s put our money where our mouths are.

Why is it a good idea to outsource only basic IT, processing jobs, and call centers? Send the IT senior executive jobs there too. Saul, you’re out. Let’s outsource it all. If our executive team strongly believes that work can be done cheaper, and as good or better in India and the Philippines, than why not send it all over there? If the only goal is to make as much money as possible, then let’s get serious. Maximizing profits is everything. Charlie - sorry, but I’m pretty sure there is a properly educated gentleman in India who would do your job for $100,000/ year. You’re definitely out.

There are highly educated resourceful men in other parts of the world who could do the whole C-Suite’s jobs, for pennies on the dollar. In fact, they would probably do a better job, because they haven’t been handed everything in life. And who says the BOD jobs can’t be outsourced? Seriously, what do they do that can’t be done better and cheaper in another country. HR? You’re out of here. Compliance? Please. Banking? I do everything online at Ally, and I never see my FA. Trading? Automate it. Investment Institute, research can only be done by US citizens? You’re out too. And It certainly would improve our D&I numbers. Send all of the Wells Fargo jobs to many different countries, and you’ve met your D&I goals.

In fact, let’s send all American jobs overseas. You don’t want to go to India to see your doctor? Well those hospital conglomerates need to maximize profits too.

Yes, let’s burden our critical subject matter experts... our software developers’ gurus who go above and beyond... and give 5em more process. LOL.

Here’s a better idea. Give these people the chance to develop the approach and repeatable Dev Ops processes. Then let’s become a process based oraganization.

We at Wells need to somehow grasp the fact that we need to make the investment before we reap the rewards. To put this in perspective we’re 25 years behind most banks. That isn’t changing overnight, particularly when most of these very people are targeted for reductions due to pay scale and age.

Nothing would make me happier than to be laid off and leave all that innovating to you. Not sure what part of the business you work in but in IT, it's all about process. Even the process of innovating is moving to Agile (with varying degrees of success IMO).

Oh sorry. Your job is the next to go. WFC already has enough yes men who agree with the “strategy of today” that turns out to be the failure of tomorrow. Yes-men out. Innovators in.

Large corporations want processes not people. The days of 'let's call Fred 'cause he's an expert on xyz system' are over. The object now is to have repeatable, follow the sun, doesn't matter who is doing the work so long as it's the same outcome every day processes. The Fred's of the world should hopefully take this opportunity to move into more value added positions because nobody is indispensable. Outsourcing will continue whether we like it or not to keep opex down and all we're seeing at WF now is an over correction from years of bloat.

I agree with senior management and the Board putting their money where their mouth is. Hypocrisy is claiming to have standards to which one's own behavior does not conform. They believe in cost-cutting except for when it comes to themselves. Let’s double the salary of a new unproven CEO, but cut and outsource low paying jobs. Let’s add high-paying executive positions, but cut and outsource low paying jobs.

Anyone who falls for it, or supports it, is a self-absorbed fool.

Believe it or not, it's actually less expensive to complete certain tasks in-house...so keeping them in house IS maximizing profits.

Me thinks our BOD and our CEO and the senior execs have absolutely no problem throwing employees under the bus to benefit themselves. Did you know each member of our Board makes $300K to $600,000 annually to meet just 4 times per year? But our average employee makes $65,000 annually for working 5 days a week. And the sales pitch is to get rid of your job to cut costs? Give me a break.

Corporate executives love to sell offshoring to Wall Street, who cheers the move. But in the end, corporate leaders use the savings to line their own pockets. Sell off entry-level US jobs so that guys like Charlie and his cronies can make even more money. Don’t fall for it for one second. It’s Corporate Smoke and Mirrors, intended to deflect, disguise and deceive.

OP here! I was attempting to be ironic. I am not in favor of offshoring/outsourcing American jobs ever.

I don’t believe in ruining American families and communities to benefit large corporations. I don’t believe in sending away American jobs while, in the same breath, bragging about giving $100,000 to a food bank. I don’t believe in leaving America vulnerable to the whims of another country for things like medical supplies during a pandemic because we’ve given away our manufacturing I don’t trust the ethics of a US corporation who pays their CEO 36,000,000 to contribute to the destruction of the US economy. I don’t think any person is worth $36,000,000 unless they are saving lives. I think those who make decisions, which harm a group, should share in the cost and the pain they cause.

i guess you can get rid of pretty much everyone, but as you can see no US company is 100% outsourced for a reason.

There are political issues surrounding this among others. Dont think the Feds would ever allow this. I think that is a good enough reason.

I think the better idea is just to break this up and sell it to a company that has experienced management that can do a better job. Also not make money by stealing from their customers.

Why wouldn’t most non-customer facing jobs be outsourced?

The point is: who says only the processing jobs should go overseas? I know 🤚! It’s the people who don’t have the processing jobs. Your $50,000 to $100,000 per year job is declared simple enough to get rid of, to cut costs. But not the $2,000,000 to $36,000,000 per year jobs. It’s a sham of epic proportions.

only processing type jobs get shifted overseas. Not those making decisions. A lot of IT jobs get shifted over there because they just do the black and white. A lot of IT folks that I know don't think for themselves and just do what's in the process. That's the biggest thing that's held back any IT progress at WFC.

Issue is a lot of the crimes may have harsher penalties overseas, maybe losing body limbs or even worse. I would say even though execs are here, if rest of company is there, they would still be liable.

I would say maybe hire exec's overseas too, not sure why leave anyone here.

I’ve always wondered why they don’t just move everything overseas and leave the top executives here...

Small groups of people often make decisions, that benefit themselves, and have profound negative consequences on the masses. The problem is we reward them for doing so. That’s where integrity, character, ethics and decency are supposed to come in to play in leadership. We should be rewarding those with high moral courage rather than those with weak moral moral courage.

If you are making decisions that affect other people, those decisions should be good enough for you too. A true leader should not ask anything if his/her employees that they are not willing to do themselves.
