I'm lucky they default back into the plan from last year, but I simultaneously feel like a space cadet and am annoyed there wasn't more communication on it.

Call HR... they are really nice and they will help you with your FSA. It happens to the best of us. Some of us are busy staying up 3 days in a row to get stuff out and completed on schedule... SO FSA plans and stuff like that are often after thought. I think of that perhaps as BLIND DEDICATION...
More communication? There were multiple emails, splashes on Teamworks, probably a reminder from your manager, etc. Not to mention, this happens every year. But hey, it's management's fault were in this mess...
If you didn’t go in and make any choices the deadline has been extended to year end. You just can’t do it online - you need to call into HR. It’s due to COVID and is available to anyone who didn’t go in before the original deadline.
“and am annoyed there wasn't more communication on it”
OMG
OP you deserve to be laid off. Way too entitled.
How about taking responsibility for once in your life...
FSA does NOT default back to what you had last year, you have to opt in to it every year.
Meh, you can use it on Amazon. I do because I will never use all of it before they expire
I have even ordered pizza with it
More communication? Sh–, I was annoyed by too much communication.
Buy enough optifree solutions from different stores using FSA and then return (after claiming your FSA
Well hate to say it but you had plenty of time for something that important. No one to blame but yourself. Good it falls back to what you had.
You should have remonth. a letter in the mail with a reminder to use remaining FSA. I got my letter within the past month.
Don't panic. You have until March (15th? 16th?) to USE the 2020 FSA dollars and until April (15th? 16th?) to SUBMIT invoices (via receipts, etc).
Given the pandemic, I think the 2020 FSA dollars should be able to be used beyond March 2021, since we could not (still cannot in some regions) go to dentist, medical dr's, etc.
