Thread regarding Wells Fargo & Co. layoffs

How many of you are struggling with stress and anxiety due to Wells Fargo’s toxic work environment?

Am I the only one dealing with stress and anxiety due to the current state of Wells Fargo’s work environment? Do you lay awake at night worrying about being laid off and how long it is going to take to find another job? Do you wonder how you will pay your bills and feed your family? How are you coping with the current circumstances? I am asking, because I feel alone, but maybe I am not. Thanks

I rake a vacation and have nightly nightmares about returning to work. But they aren’t nightmares, they’re the reality of the daily h*ll here. I am working on ways out. We all should be working on ways out..

the woman manager in our group is like evil; she does things to make some top workers look unqualified. Really sick. Hope someone weeds these crooked people out soon. She keeps unqualified workers who wont go anywhere as they have no skills.

Anyways ill have a new job soon, leaving due to bad management that lack integrity.

PTSD from wells is nutty. Come on people. If you feel you have PTSD from this place, you got bigger problems outside of work. Be healthy!

I get your comment on the 401k and taking control, but i am a long way off from that point today.

In reality a lot of us are slaves. I feel like i am in a factory of wage slaves. The managers show absolutely no respect for anyone. This is really all about control. For example manager put in work Friday afternoon to see who does it, this force people to work on weekend and evenings. Manager harass everyone in chats etc all weekend.
So with the stack ratings they do, every bit of time you take off counts against your performance. You are literally compared and ranked against all of your colleagues on a chart.

This one time i was working with this one co-worker, who teamed up with the manager, and they started taking aim at me. I remember on the day my husband left me, i left a little early and this colleague secretly go in and badmouth me to management, claiming that I didnt seem to care about the work.

Thing is it is very back stabbing here because everyone knows they are being compared against each other. My colleague and I were about the same level and they know we were going to be compared against each other. So technically it is in their best interest to drive my performance down as much as possible so they can look better than me.

You have legitimate mental health impacts from Wells and certainly should get help and disability. I would not bring up PTSD. Nothing in the workforce can really rise to that level, you don’t need to claim it to get the help you need and it may well damage your more legitimate claims.

I used to be stressed out and fearful over losing my job. I took a lot of c-ap from my "superiors".

But what changed for me was when I realized that my 401k had reached a level that I don't need this job anymore. Or any job.

Now I am stress free. I ignore the c-ap I don't want to put up with. I no longer acknowledge those in management as my "superiors", and they know it. At this time in my life every paycheck is just play money.

For your own peace of mind, you young people need to start maxing out your 401k contributions early, and keep maxing them out. It adds up.

Everybody talks about "retirement planning", but the part nobody talks about is "peace of mind planning". That's the big win!

Anyways I just got a job at Bank of America, it may be toxic too, but nothing like here; these managers and the cronies are likely from North Korea.

What causes someone to get to this level of abuse? Really scary any human being, manager or not, would ever act this way. Like they were taken over by the dark side. Wonder if they were ever decent humans or born this way? Scary to see a human being can act this way to any other human being.

I am hoping once i leave here and have no further contact with anyone or anything here, ill get my health and sanity back from the abuse over the last year.

hey dont worry about it, they are probably pushing you out;

Just remember even if they succeed, the company is going to replace those people with high school / college kids for like 30 - 40k; They will push out everyone there at or over 10-15 years. Clean house!

Just look at all the posts from the kids on linkedin excited about their new roles, which are probably theirs.

they are trying to remove all the criminal behaviors and labor law violations. Only a matter of time.

How is it the managers and peers pick who they are going to emotionally abuse? i faced it too. Very odd tactic, like communism but also violating labor laws. They probably dont know what those are I a guessing

In 2012 I was diagnosed with depression and anxiety because of my work in Phone Bank. Now I have diagnosed PTSD because of the emotional and psychological abuse I faced from managers and peers. Thankfully I'm in another role on an amazing team, but I cant interact with phone bank people anymore.

Depends on the area and people you work with. Wells is not toxic but there are toxic people. I have seen certain people violate every policy on how we should work and treat people yet they continue to get away with it and even get promotions. Sometimes there's a different set of rules when you are brilliant or bring in a lot of revenue. I still encourage everyone to document, get witnesses. Their day is coming. I think our leadership is lacking though. They are willing to sacrifice the culture which was already being tainted. A poor culture can be the stake through the heart.

Yes I was recently hospitalized for the first time in my life . It was from being over stressed at work . My boss even texted me work while I was in the hospital to complete when I got out . My perspective has changed since being released and I’m no longer going to be worried about this extra work load . I’ve been contacted by a recruiter And I now realize now that I’m marketable. If wells can’t respect my mental and physical health I will slam the door on them . I don’t have to be there .

Wells was incredibly toxic for me. My manager was a bully. I started looking for a job last summer. My new job pays over $20k more per year. Wells is a horrible place to work, and I would not wish it on my worst enemy. My advice is to look for a job and leave as soon as you can. There are jobs out there.

This is definitely the worst workplace in the United States! No doubt about it!

I have my exit strategy and never will be back to this place. They treat people like trash.

Also first company i have seen that does not try to win the best workplace awards. Guess they know with all the unethical things done here, no way they would win.

OP, you are NOT alone. I feel the same way.

If I could, I would give you a big hug.

You don't deserve this. No one does.

It's psychological torture.

Don't give up. There are better days ahead. It may take time, but there will be other roles elsewhere and this will all seem like a distant nightmare.

Can you work from home? If they are letting people -DO IT. Get a note from your doctor saying it’s best you work from home due to health issues. It’s true- you are having mental health issues - they (work) don’t need to know it’s them that cause it. They’ll think it’s cuz of COVID. Working from home for me at least is so liberating. No micromanaging. No interaction with anyone accept Skype chat. It’s a whole new world! Sorry you are feeling this way. I’ve been there. S—s a**.

Very suspicious of any meetings with Management now, afraid it will be a layoff notice. I like my job at Wells Fargo, have the extra week of vacation due to length of service, their benefits are still pretty great, 401K match is good, pay is good. Do have to work tons of overtime for sometimes months at a time but can survive that as long as it does not become continual. Then I surely would have to quit.

Just hanging in there right now. It does make for an "anxious" and frustrating work environment every day think you, your Manager, or team mates will be laid off any day now. No sense of a future or any job security working at Wells Fargo right now. It is sad. What if all of the Wells Fargo employees quit within the next few months, like they seem to want them to, and Wells Fargo has 0 employees left then? Ha. That would be funny.

Post ID: @1uro+186N4k1m, every single word that you wrote is true.

“the team I'm on now is so toxic I get ill every Sunday night knowing what the next week will bring. I can't sleep at night going over and over again in my head all of the reasons why I keep letting my boss's mismanagement and my coworkers lack of doing their part get to me. My body just hums with anxiety. My mental health is shot and it is destroying my physical health. All for this job that doesn't even matter”.

I have been right there with you buddy, so sorry for the way we get treated. I made an inside bank move 5 years ago and it did help to a degree. You must try to do that as well as fast as you can. . Mine helped a bit but not enough... now it has become toxic again.

I’m now working on a move out of banking. Based on my experience you should probably pursue both an internal and an external move at the same time. The long term ramifications of this kind of stress will truely destroy your physical health as well.

I absolutely hate it here. I didn't used to feel this way, but the team I'm on now is so toxic I get ill every Sunday night knowing what the next week will bring. I can't sleep at night going over and over again in my head all of the reasons why I keep letting my boss's mismanagement and my coworkers lack of doing their part get to me. My body just hums with anxiety. My mental health is shot and it is destroying my physical health. All for this job that doesn't even matter. Honestly, the work I do DOESN'T EVEN MATTER. People around me make mountains out molehills because they don't want to get laid off.

I am so busy at work (no breaks, no lunch, no idea when I get to leave for the day, have to work alot after hours) I have no good mental time to sit down and try to smartly GTFO of here. I wish for a layoff so I can put good energy into looking for a new job. I have coworker's that coast. Their jobs are gravy because very little is expected of them. What they get paid for what they do it unreal. It makes me so resentful.

I have never been on a team before where half the team does not even do the bare minimum and the manager allows it. He either is absolutely clueless or doesn't care as long as the work is done. I think it's both. He is the type of manager who keeps getting hired simply because he has previous management experience. He somehow blames the good ones for not managing the bad ones properly. He just wants it to not be his problem. Worst manager I've ever had. I should have stayed in my old team where the manager knew how to manage people.

Yes... I had several issues from the stress of working in wells... and know several others who did /do as well.... This is why I started looking when I found layoffs were coming last summer... it took some time... but eventually I found a better job at a better firm for better pay... I will tell you that was the best thing I ever did.... the night I turned in my 2 weeks I slept better than I had in months... I will tell you that however in any new job you get your going to be gun shy because its like leaving a abusive relationship.... it leaves deep scars which will take time to heal...

You are not alone. This place has affected my sleep, my mental and physical well-being. I’ve lost confidence in my ability to do my job that I’ve always done well. These are feelings I’m unfamiliar with as it relates to my career. Toxic really is the best word to describe this place.

I’m close enough to retirement that I don’t really care what happens. Would like to work a few more years but if it doesn’t happen I’ll survive.

And it’s getting to the point where it’s not worth it. I never chose to work at Wells. I’m here as a result of mergers. And in my entire long lifetime of working I have never seen a more toxic environment.

I call it MBD. Management By Demoralization These people actually believe that the more they bully and demean the more motivated employees will be. And this isn’t new. I noticed it the day WF took over.

No, it may not be perfect anywhere. But it’s not like this. There are places where people are valued. You will see.

@xnp+186N4k1m, what you mention is the exact reason i did a massive job search, went on almost 15 interviews. The people are so toxic all throughout the place. Not even have time to worry about a layoff.

I finally did get some offers from this search and will put in notice this week. Really my health was suffering badly from the toxicity in the environment and i was worried about that more. Never been anywhere like this

I feel you on the stress and anxiety, but for the opposite reason. They’ve made my LOB so toxic and unbearable that I’ve laid awake at night dreading logging in the next day. I’ve noticed more of my peers this week now have zz on their emails, not sure if they were laid off or finally had enough.

I feel bad for complaining about my job while so many in the company are losing theirs, but they’ve made the environment so awful in the name of “COVID-19 policy updates” that I’m on the verge of having a mental breakdown. It’s destroyed my health, my relationship with my significant other, and my ability to care about work at all. I know I should be grateful I still have a job, but I just can’t live like this anymore.

I don’t worry about losing my job, I’m very prepared to absorb prolonged unemployment.

What’s k–ling me is the attitude of people at work, it is beyond toxic.

I heard exactly one other person wish people a Happy Thanksgiving besides myself. When I did, people seemed surprised by it.

People are so fried that they can no longer find any small bit of joy in a cherished holiday. It’s awful.

Agree with the other comments. You can't control getting laid off, but you can control other things including a serious, dedicated job search. Doing SOMETHING to improve your situation can do amazing things to your outlook. Hang in there, and good luck.

I stopped worrying about the job when I realized I didn't care.

I'm starting a job search and will quit if I don't get let go.

This was a should still be a great place to work, but management, at least in IT, can't get out of their own way.

The gloom here is at least three years old if not older, that's too long. Jobs have ups and downs, this one is on a long, slow slide downhill.

You are not alone, and ignore any trolls who give their useless two cents.
