Thread regarding Wells Fargo & Co. layoffs

If you want loyalty get a dog. Corporations have not counted employees among their stakeholders since the 1960s. When you walk in the door you better have your psychological armor on.

Or get a cushy government job and goosestep for them.

Don’t believe state TV. Get your info from medical professionals. The vaccines were developed despite the government, not because of it. They were developed by those companies themselves. You know, scientists, those ones who get ignored.

The rest of us live in the real world, where "free markets" drop our home values by half or more without us having done anything, where recessions lead to a lack of demand for our work and we are without a job for some time.

Oh, yeah, and where governments mismanage pandemic responses and hundreds of thousands of people perish alone on ventilators.

You are correct that our lives are the result of our decisions, but you need to take time in account, and during these times, maybe try looking outside your litle world.

I'm sorry to see you haven't quite become an adult yet. You put the blame on someone else for your current situation.
As some have said here before, there will always be economic downturns and situations beyond our control. Instead of labeling others as evil we should position ourselves for alternatives in case the inevitable happens.

Corporate jobs always go south eventually.

You may have a great boss, good coworkers, great benefits, and love your work.

But eventually something like COVID or an economic downturn or just your good boss leaves and you get some nasty replacement.

Life is too short to worry about it, the company doesn't love you, don't love it back.

It happens everywhere. I worked at another company for ten years and they laid me off two weeks before Thanksgiving.
It's Corporate America and it's happening everywhere and not just Wells Fargo. As long as you're working in Corporate America, you will be working in a company seeing this. They have no loyalty to us. I wish I can retire now so I can quit worrying about this

Holiday layoffs are old as corporate America, don't you understand? They don't care about your feelings.

I'm not saying that they should never end someone's employment around the holidays, sometimes it is performance related and that is justified. But when the company is doing it as part of their own mismanagement or change in plans (spans and layers, location strategy, shifting work overseas...) it is insensitive especially during covid-tough times to not just wait until the new year.

sure, not everyone celebrates Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year but under the wells umbrella many do. throw a little bone and let them be employed a little longer. Cost money to the company ? yes, but they would get gainful work out of most. But Wells doesn't care about the well being of the people in the organiztion. they are just numbers on a spreadsheet and the callous executive management only cares about the immediate money and collecting a bonus for diversity. as a shareholder for several companies including WFC, I would value a company that puts their best asset (people) first ahead of a small chunk of money. in the long run i suspect that a happier bunch of team members brings much much more value than a short term salary draw.

OP, the only comment I disagree with is that they’ve won. The only way they win is if we let them. Call me Pollyanna, but I truly believe everything happens for a reason.

No, it’s not a happy Thanksgiving, for multiple reasons. My advice is try to remember it’s just one of many. The holidays come every year. Sometimes we enjoy them, sometimes we just get through them.

This year, get through them by taking moments. Take a moment to enjoy your favorite desert. Take a walk in the fresh air. Watch your dog chase a squirrel. Just for a moment. It won’t make the situation better, but even a short break is better than no break at all.

Op, you seem to think only Wells Fargo is doing this and it's not true. Many corporations and especially within corporate America are doing this and if not now, it will be soon.
It's sad and I agree but to think it's only Wells who is eliminating jobs is naive.
I guarantee that if you go somewhere else, you'll see the same thing.

Op, take a moment at thanksgiving to look at everything you have in your life to be thankful for.

We live in the greatest country in earth/have family friends/have our health/have jobs that actually pay severance/etc.

You are the one who gets to decide if you will have a happy thanksgiving. Not Wells Fargo.

If you’re not happy maybe you should quit and find something new. Personally, I just love my job and my manager. Hope you find what you’re looking for!
