Wondering if anyone else is experiencing this - I was part of a restructure that took effect over a month ago. New team. New manager. I have been contacted by my new manager only twice since this occurred (one being an introductory call) and there is little to no direction or work being assigned. Not sure if this is an issue at her level or those above. Anyone else?

The teller posing as an engineering manager is starting to sound like a 1950s B movie. No one is safe. Flee. Run for your lives. Escape certain death via Microsoft Project.
And yet the teller posing as an Engineering Manager still roams
Layoffs in Enterprise Technology today (12/1). i heard of 8 managers - you know the day to day managers and some do have lots of knowledge - was not as you would expect. i lost 4 direct co workers, and all other teams seems did lose some i just don't know all those people. I have also heard decision is purely from HR no manager input - all based on salary, cost of severance and the number rating we all had in the summer. The package is 60 days paid paid plus 2 weeks severance per year of service. I don't know if all packages are the same. This is just what my coworker told me. These are just some facts to share, we dont expect more this year but who knows. If you get a 1-1 with mgmt on Monday for a meeting on Tues. Its a hard day to live through.
Look everybody, it has been decades since I worked for a manager who had any idea what I actually do. I fave heard the “just keep on doing what you do” request over and over in reorgs. Maybe in some purely clerical jobs there is specific requests for tasks but most of us are asked to bring in large projects successfully with little actual guidance.
I'm experiencing the same. I am "self directed" at work. Manager (not a leader) cancels out 1x1's most of the time....when we have him you can hear him working something else in the background as you speak......it's a real shame what this company has turned into. If I want to "F" off most of the day working remote I could. Boss is just elusive.
@1tgr+185Ex8YD, you are 100% on the money; used to love working here then about 18 months ago it all changed. I dread going to work now, cant stand it in fact. I am searching hard to to get out of this toxic place. Upside is there is plenty of time to apply for other jobs while doing the new fake work added to the normal tasks.
Now it is a horrible workplace, worse of anywhere. Cant think of anyone who likes it anymore.
I work for a manager who I've known for years, and he's not the same guy these days.
He's just a little flat? I guess is the best way to say it.
That said, I'm not doing my best work either.
Something about this place just drives the drive right out of you.
Before someone spouts off about "so leave", working on it sport, thanks.
All excuses aside probably typical do nothing manager. I got realigned into new team in WIMT, new manager was not much of a presence and 2 months later still aint and to complicate matters for me we have this huge effort affecting every application in WIMT and as usual there is little to no guidance from the managers, well one manager is providing some leadership but the others are waiting for us engineers to sort it out. No leadership at all.
My manager has always been this way in the years I have worked here. Very little communication and a lot of, "I don't know". It's bad management and poor leadership. The advantage is you don't have anyone looking over your shoulder. The disadvantage is you are always in the dark.
I am experiencing same too
It’s similar here, the motto is keep doing what you have been doing until they figure out something new
When you are managing in the teens or more of employees, you can’t give them personal attention like in the past. I wouldn’t expect it anymore, which is apparently how they want it.
Yes, you have a new manager. But remember your new manager has xx new employees, likely new roles for what their team is responsible for, and maybe new responsibilities for themselves. Yes maybe they should send an email out to explain what they are working through, but just give it some time.
Experiencing the same. I was assigned an interim manager who couldn't give a scat what my team does. New 'permanent manager has been named but no communication/direction on what that means for my team.
Just all warm and fuzzy inside about it.
Next step to lay off!
Why not reach out to your supervisor to start building rapport trust and contract with them
What do you want what do they want from the relationship frequency of communication clarity of expectations and how you are performing against expectations
You deserve that as a minimum and it will show how you are leading yourself proactively. I would bet your supervisor will appreciate your proactive approach and respond with enthusiasm
If they dont then they have shown you who they are
The wait for the top to get their stuff together is crazy. I would hang on for a bit it is probably not personal
Be patient, they're probably trying to figure it all out like you.
