Thread regarding Wells Fargo & Co. layoffs

I do not get the “it’s terrible everywhere” philosophy. People seem to carry it like some badge of honor.
It is not.

I don’t know where some of you have worked, but it doesn’t have to be that way. Maybe part of the problem is viewing it only “as a job and nothing more”.

I have been, for the most part, happy through my entire work life other than this past year at WFC under Charlie’s realm. I think I’m going to stick it out for a little while because I think there’s a good chance that Charlie won’t be around for long. If I’m wrong- I will pivot.

I think I’ve got a good chance at going to a smaller brokerage in my city, due to my experience. I have friends there who love it. It wouldn’t as much money, but it would be less stress and better benefits. A trade off. The people in my life who like/love their work are two brothers, a sister-in-law, a cousin, my niece and her husband, another niece, and probably 3/4 of my close friends. The friends who aren’t currently happy work for Verizon and BAC. So I can tell you the “it’s terrible everywhere” rationalization is simply not true. There are organizations worse than WFC, I’m sure, but there are plenty that are much much better than how it is here at Wells right now.

I don’t question anyone for staying here. Everyone has their own reasons and responsibilities and this is a board for people working for a firm during a difficult time of transition and layoffs and stress. So come here and spill your guts, or praise WFC if you’re happy here. It’s an open forum and I would hope people who disagree with someone would do it with some respect. Or just keep their comments to themselves. Trolls are going to be trolls, so just ignore them. I don’t even downtick a troll because it feeds them. I prefer to starve them.

But please don’t try to strike fear in to the hearts of people who want happy lives both at home and at work by telling them this is as good as it gets. It is not. That is your attempt to explain or justify your reasons for staying, even though it is not true or appropriate. Don’t put your rationalizations on people who want more out of life.

I know too many people who are thriving in their work lives, today and in this economy. Sometimes you might have to choose between money and happiness. But oftentimes you don’t: I have a friend who just lost her job 6 months back as an executive admin at a large insurance company. She was petrified because she thought she had it so good at the job she had, and she just knew she could never make the same money elsewhere. Friends were telling her “admin jobs are a thing of the past.”
It took a couple months but she is now working as an exec admin for another insurance company, for a boss she likes even more than her original boss. And they are paying her more money, and it’s closer to home. She said this job is more demanding, but she is enjoying that part too because she is productive and respected and appreciated by the new boss.

I do what I do for a paycheck. I’m not here fir adoration and expect none. HR provides no career paths for any of us. If you are looking for something different, move on.

If you go to a Top-Tier tech company, you will find a different environment. Mangers actually are rated on if their employees do well, so its in their best interest to be sure they do well.

TBH, while other companies I have worked at have some of this, i have to say this is the worst of them all with out a doubt. This is mainly due to the metrics and other areas are based on if they get the most people to quit vs stay here at Wells.

Maybe we just have to visit reality and see the company is even failing worse that it has ever in history of it being in business.

I just got moved from a developer role to platform support admin role. To me its a bunch of mindless nothing sending emails begging people to do their job and performing useless sharepoint validations but bosses think it great and it gives me plenty of time to drink and binge watch tv. Thanks Saul.

People are in for a rude awakening when the join another company.

Face it folks, corporate America is full of greed, cronyism, discrimination of all kinds. Sue there are those companies that care but it's a 10:1 ratio at best.

Post ID: @wdm+17yTAtUT I appreciate your perspective. I did actually work for a mid to large-sized firm with highly ethical leadership. I know I was very lucky. At my prior firm, everyone worked as a team towards the common goal of success for the company. Leaders shined the light of success on their teams rather than themselves. It wasn’t perfect 100% of the time, but our leadership recognized the importance of setting a good example for and taking care of the employees. The result was satisfied hard-working employees serving happy customers and communities. The company had a great reputation which kept new referrals and new money coming in. Everyone prospered, including the shareholders.

Unfortunately, we were acquired by Wells Fargo. And yes- I have had to deal with the reality of that.

But because I’ve known good leadership, I have a visceral response to bad leadership. Bad management making bad decisions. Including the BOD. I’m watching it play out, and I’m seeing new highly paid execs betray the common hard-working employee.

It helps me to speak out. And I hope i give a voice to others who feel the same way. I speak out at work too, BTW. Constructively. And I’ve had some wins standing up for people in our department and others. Standing up for a better decision. Not every time, but I’ve learned that staying silent and accepting the status quo doesn’t really help anyone, including me.

I have been taken advantage of, treated like c-ap. Let go when I did my best. It hurts. You move on. In all honesty, I don't think I ever held a job where I was treated fairly or appreciated. When it got too bad, I went to another company and so on and so on. I don't expect management to care or the higher ups because they don't . You keep feeling like that, you're in for long ride or I hope you're at least close to retiring or starting your own business.

@ngo, honestly, when you work for Corporate America, don't expect them to care. Seriously, I worked for three different firms before coming to Wells and yes, just Wells, they turned out to be sh–holes.
You give your blood, sweat and tears and they don't give a sh–. They will fill your position with a blink of an eye. Bottom line is you collect your paycheck and benefits and when it's time to move on, you go.
In all of my years of working, I have learned that big corporations don't care about the little people. You have to realize that it's just a job. It's not your life.

I actual laughed to myself when I posted this, knowing it would draw out the usual round of of “Right-fighters.” Same spiel, different day. Highly predictable. I could have written your response for you, but then that would have denied you your daily pleasure of putting others down to boost your self-esteem. BTW, would you mind explaining to the board how did you get that way? Such lack of empathy for others. I’m hoping you are more kind in real life.

I type what I think. And I do mean it. No more jumping through hoops for a CEO who so far has been cold, short-sighted, arrogant, unappreciative, non-communicative, disrespectful, unproductive and self-serving. I’ll put in a respectable day’s work, but am I going to go the extra mile for this guy? No. I’m adjusting to my environment. Additionally, I worry for my honorable, earnest and trusting friends who keep showing up every day and giving their all to a new team who continues to betray and disrespect them.

Some will agree now. Some will agree after a few more negative actions, on Charlie’s part, towards his employees. And some will never agree. It’s whatever works for each person.

Bottom line is Corporate America doesn't give a sh–. They don't. Either retire or start your own business. You think you're hurting them by not giving a sh–? Nope. They will have you replaced in a heartbeat and won't think twice about you afterwards.

As if we didn't have enough to deal with, now we (those of us who take some pride in their work) have to listen to a whiner like you. Leave, go away, get another job somewhere else. If you're waiting for the CEO to stop by and kiss your a$$, you might be waiting a while.

Ha, some of us already do that since Shart took over and started hiring his “white” buddies. I do just enough to not get fired and that’s it. Can’t wait for them to take my mobile device away so I can do even less.
