To be fair, if you are an actual employee, look at the guidelines on teamworks. They're not how you describe. I do agree that we should not return to office work until it's safe for everyone to not wear masks anywhere, IF ever.

Working from home is so much better than an office. Of course I miss seeing friends at the office, but I now get to see my family more which actually yields more meaningful and productive results for the company.

Companies that provide the most flexibility and option offerings will attract and retain the best talent, which in turn, lowers a vast variety of costs, and companies can truly do more with less.

It's not for everyone, that's for sure, but I believe it should be a choice for everyone and without any repercussions.

I find that I just don’t want to talk much wearing a mask. Wearing it all day at the office, it would get damp and yucky from water vapor when you breath. Nasty. Hard to concentrate, let alone collaborate or discuss while wearing a mask. I will just do as I do now in public - say nothing, agree with whatever, since it is easier. I will try to have all meetings via chat, so no need to speak thru mask. I can speak freely at home, I don’t wear a mask inside my own home.

Vaccine is k–ling testers too now. The news said if you dont feel safe going to office, you dont need to.

Next year... spring if numbers go down which doesn't seem likely since we many 'muricans think masks are bad, more likely late summer. Maybe a vaccine will change things. Its a liability issue, Why would they send people in if there is a scintilla of a chance multiple people get it?

I wonder how they are going to get everyone to go back to the office for those of us in downtown SF. Most of us who work downtown don’t drive to the office but use public transport. Before Covid everyone was jammed packed into these trains like sardines. In addition, being crammed into the elevators with others - all just to go to a desk where they’ll have you be safely distanced with other anyways.

What’s the point? People will start calling in sick, potentially an entire group in a location wiped out. It seems too risky to ask us to come in before a vaccination is tested and released.

No one! But I do enjoy calling out people here who are blatantly ignorant. And it looks like I’ve hit a nerve.

I’m new to this thread. I think people aren’t reacting negatively to you saying you feel better going in to the office. Sometimes I feel that way. I miss the camaraderie and some people don’t like being alone all day while others don’t enjoy being with their spouses and kids all day.

But there is an element of judgement and provocation in your posts. “None of this c-ap about being just as productive at home.” (There are numbers to show that at least some departments are showing higher productivity at home).

And “Sitting home all day makes you fat, lazy and nonproductive.” (Rather than “Sitting home all day is making ME fat, lazy and nonproductive.”)

My point is that you are not reacting healthily when you claim you were attacked after provoking others. There is a psychological term for people like that, but I’m not going to go there.

My 2 cents is that they want people back in the office because they ENJOY EXERTING THEIR CONTROL!!!

You know who these managers are. There are some (many?) self-important managers who think you can’t be trusted without their keeping a tight eye on you. You might take too long for your bathroom break 😱! They like to point out to their LOB that without them, “You would be on YouTube and ESPN all day.“ They like to think their physical presence is necessary for your high productivity, not you!

They can’t pressure you to put in 10 hour days at the office to prove your undying dedication, even though there is no work. Less opportunity to publicly play favorites and reject others for not s—ing up. Your managers can’t enjoy showing off they are “in the know” and you aren’t, because they are sitting in a glass conference room meeting which you weren’t invited to. No employees to feed their egos by publicly emulating them (We have a manager who gives you the up and down if you’re not dressing like a 70 year-old woman at Talbots. And we have women who gradually change their style to please her.)

They enjoy watching you snap to attention when they walk up to your desk. And the captured audience to laugh at their jokes. They love showing off their expensive executive shoes and tailored shirts that you are not paid enough to buy. They feel somehow better than most when parking their brand new Mercedes in between the 10 year old Corollas and Dodge Darts.

Yep- that is the real reason they want us back. They need to prove on a daily basis that the organization simply can’t make it without showing off their superiority.

PS Not all managers are like this. We have 4 managers in my department. One is awesome- he goes out of his way to make us all feel like we are equals working towards the same goals. But we have 3 who sure do openly enjoy playing the game. And it is those same 3 who want us back in the office.

The only reason the bank wants to push people back into offices is to they can use it as cover for layoffs over location strategy. There's no other viable reason to push people to be back in an office.

Call centers can function remotely.
99% of tech work can function remotely.
I'd wager the vast majority of operations can function remotely.

Unless your job has a specific need to be on-site, there are zero reasons to operate in an office building. It's cheaper to have employees be remote. I've seen the numbers that prove it, and that was before the last decade of office rents going up.

I'll reiterate, the only reason they'll push it is to cut people via location strategy.

If that's how you feel, that's on you buddy. Working from home gives you more time to get outside and exercise instead of being stuck in traffic. You also have more control over your diet and don't have the temptation of going eating out. It's sad that you folks can't grow up and be adults.

Ignorance at its best. Go back! Get sick! Then, tell us what you think about wanting to go back into the office so badly.

I am personally much more productive at home and that's with kids, husband, and animals. I have less distractions. No one coming up to my desk, no mo having to leave for lunches, no traffic to deal with. I get more done and in less time.

We’ve been told it won’t be this year. Possibly not even first quarter next year.

I guess we’ll find out on a monthly basis that it’s postponed until next month since leadership can’t give a date. Other companies say April 2021 or June 2021. They don’t say November 1st. Update, December 1st. Update, we don’t know.

Likely not until next year. Personally, I’m looking forward to it and all of the things that should also be happening (opening of the world). None of this c-ap about being just as productive at home. :)
