Thread regarding Wells Fargo & Co. layoffs

Cuts in Compliance but don’t tell the regulators????

Don’t you love the shell game going on when the regulators have already said Compliance is deficient? Move people to line of business and then cut!! And they state this openly on a call - come on people!!

“HR, if you’re listening, increase people’s credentials and requirements. I’m sick of this.“

You’re pleading with the very most dumbed down department in Wells to increase validation of credentials and requirements. This place is hilarious.

Would you rather backfill now with external new hires or wait a bit longer so some internal employees with the skill set can transition instead of larger layoffs? Talk about Tone-deaf.

compliance is a team so you guys not understanding the OP meant the team needs to be beefed up PER REGULATORS is mind blowing. Maybe Eng is your second language? IDK Everyone in this company should know there has been major hiring of risk, compliance and legal. Get a clue!

Blame management from the top to the bottom for every problem, Compliance or otherwise. Never the employees.

As a manager, I consider it my responsibility to know every system, process and law related to the area I manage. No question I can’t answer. I hire people with good attitudes. If people have problems, I coach them. If, after time they are not able to do the work, I start the (lengthy, not easy) process of termination. I have a great team and I fight hard for them. Am tough but loyal. We have too many managers who don’t want to put in the work of moving out the non performers. Or worse, they don’t have any clue they have no performers working for them. And that goes all the way up the LOB. If a mid-level managers has 7 managers reporting to him/her, the same goes.

Managers are supposed to be accountable for their department/business. We should be rewarding the great workers and managers, and replacing the bad. That’s the job. No one should be coasting.

I do not understand any managers here, or in any organization, who have no idea what their people are doing. Their is a philosophy here that you don’t have to know the work in order to manage the department. I couldn’t disagree more. Those managers can’t solve problems, or streamline their operation, or support their staff because they don’t know what they don’t know.

We have a lot of great managers too. I went on a rant, lol, but employees should never be blamed for the failings of their managers.

If you say compliance is deficient, you mean that compliance, the act of complying, is sub par. It’s not even my area but I was scratching my head at “well then, slash away at the department that oversees whether you are complying, then don’t backfill, problem solved”.

@ttn+17rB3Vlv - Aren't we the clever one. Having to correct others’ interpretations must become tedious after a while. The original post referred to compliance but never specified whether it was the function or the people performing said function. I'd venture an opinion that either interpretation was up for grabs when commenting on such a vaguely worded statement but I'm apparently not as pedantic as you.

Word to the wise. Many people would rather spend 40 hours per week with someone that was a bit more human rather than some smarta$$ who nobody can stand.

Communicate clearly and there will be no confusion.

Thank you for clarifying @nsr, I see the first three posters don’t seem to understand, which is exactly part of the problem with our company. Do you know how often I have to correct others’ interpretation of what they just read and comprehended? Or after asking a question, they answer but upon further questioning I find they misconstrued the process (probably on purpose). I need hazard pay to deal with the low IQs here. HR, if you’re listening, increase people’s credentials and requirements. I’m sick of this.

Deficient in that we aren’t staffed adequately to train or supervise - not the quality of the people

Compliance, regulatory, etc. What a boring way to spend your one and only life.

(No offense if you work in compliance, regulatory, etc.)

Compliance belongs on the front lines seeing as that's where we seem to have the most issues and if people are deficient, they need to go. Not sure what your complaint is.

If the regulators said we were deficient with the people that were currently there, why would they be upset we got rid of deficient people?
