Thread regarding Wells Fargo & Co. layoffs

A lot of big talk on this board

It went from everyone scared of losing their job, to everyone saying "bring it on".

It's easy to think that you won't care, but if it actually happens to you, you just might find the you shíte in your trousers from pure anxiety.

@gbv+17oQGjvR... a “3”?

No need to be afraid. Unless you make it to the c-suite, you haven't truly "made it" in this industry. Everyone else should take this for what it is, a job. No matter what level you are at, a job that you can find elsewhere. If they wanna pay you 60 days to not work with severance and PTO, take their money and trust that at the very least the next thing will be no worse than this.

If you're comp is inflated compared to what you actually do and you're let go, it's tough to see this way, but be glad that you were able to make that money in the first place rather than not at all.

I don't want it happening to me. I had it happen when I was younger and it was easier. Being under 40 in the job market is alot easier than being over 40 looking for a job. I don't want to over 40 and unemployed. If I were closer to retirement, sure, no problem. But, I'm not. So, hopefully the layoff ax passes me by.

My thoughts exactly.

Confidence in your abilities is a good thing. Arrogance is a toxic trait. Wells Fargo needs confident, skilled team players. We don’t need any more entitled self -serving braggarts.

Confidence is being convinced of your strengths but also fully aware of your weaknesses. Having a well-calibrated sense of your abilities lifts up your teammates. Confident people don’t have the need to look down on others.

Arrogance is a distorted picture of one’s own abilities. When you think you know more than you really do, you tend to look down on others. Arrogant people are not team players. In business, it’s more important to be effective than to be right, and an arrogant person is always concerned about being right.

We have a man in our department with an IQ that is off the charts. He writes programs specifically for our department. I’m sure he probably knows he is smarter and immeasurably more effective than most of the people in our department, including the higher ups. His programs reduce risk, increase productivity, keep us in line legally etc. But he is humble, open-minded, patient, knows his stuff, sees and compliments others on their unique strengths, sometimes works nights and weekends for the good of the team. Management recognizes what he brings to the table, and I am told he is paid very well to stay right where he is.

Conversely, we had a guy who was off the charts arrogant and narcissistic. All hat and no cattle as they say. Loud, boastful, gave the wrong answer half the time, made fun of or talked bad about others, stirred the pot, blamed everyone else when there was a problem, was domineering in meetings, He was laid off last summer and is still: UNEMPLOYED.

Perhaps there is a correlation between people who are prepared to be laid off and the fact that they don’t get laid off.

Perhaps people who practice diligence and don’t spew nonsense are also valued at work and survive layoffs.

Just because you do not understand the mindset of other people doesn’t mean they are lying.

I think it's horrible the company waits until the holidays when people are busy and not hiring so many people. I guess they want to put people in the worst possible situation to get a new job. Plus the pandemic also on top of this.

For me, i have been working my network and keeping skills current, not with stuff well uses but technology of today. Also trying to build my pipeline.

What is a 1 and 2?

People are full of sh–. Like I said, all talk and then if it happens to them....
Went through it at another company. Coworker kept saying she hoped to get a package. When it happened to me, she was so afraid. This was three years ago and she's still there. I suspect the others who talk a good fib will still be here also after everyone else has moved on voluntarily or involuntarily.

I am hoping to get a package.

I understand there are issues during a pandemic getting hired, and I understand there are going to be problems with the economy next year after so many unemployed people start defaulting on loans and credit.

We are not bulletproof in our finances, we'll be fine for maybe six months.

And I don't care.

This place is toxic, and at least in IT, is not headed in the right direction.

Everyone stay safe and good luck.

Some people are close to retirement and have done very well for themselves. They would likely welcome it, I have known people who were delighted to get packaged into retirement.

Others of us have several years of living expenses saved and little to no debt. I am not saying “bring it on”, but I am also not afraid.

Perhaps you’re skeptical of the confidence of others because you are not prepared. I’d argue that preparing, saving, and upskilling is a better way to spend time than trying to taunt people. But you do you.

i think the 1 and 2's will be dropped, hope you get a 3 or 4, a lot may just be if your team/manager like you, not if your skilled or not
