Thread regarding Disney layoffs

No rhyme or reason to these layoffs

There seems to be no rhyme or reason, and the parameters are different all over the place. My wife's team let go the four newest hired managers to the team and the two newest coordinators (she had more company seniority than half the team and would have been fine). They said it was about money but they kept all of the senior managers who take home more than anyone else? Our friends team let go anyone with less than 10 or more than 20 years with the company. It is what it is at this point, but we honestly thought we'd be safe and here we are.

Others departments say they are getting rid of longest in the books keeping younger ones.. year before retirement got lay-off yet brought back someone who was laid off and younger less years and got rid of more senior with more years...

Yep I just got axed today too! I think my Leader actually enjoys this. She has always been Satan, and didn’t disappoint today.

What I can tell you is at WDI Glendale its very suspicious that certain people were not laid off. These people were the upper management favorites, so its hard to believe that it was completely an HR decision who got laid off as most of the Leaders are claiming. I call BS.

The union allowed all those old timers who turned down recall and turned down reassignment to come back and bump people. Shows you the insanity of the union. If you refused the recall you should be first one laid off

That may be so, but we know plenty of the people let go in Orlando were in their 30s and there's a Disney layoff Facebook group with tons of younger people in it.

For union Cast Members: all layoffs are done by seniority, and part-time Cast Members will almost always be laid-off before full-time Cast Members. For non-union Cast Members: the company can layoff whomever they like, whatever their reasoning. There are no protections. Seniority and job know-how make no difference in the lay-offs of non-union employees. Last week, thousands of non-union Cast Members were laid-off at Walt Disney World in Florida. And many of those were people over 55 years of age and with 10-40 years of Disney experience. In business, this is called the "Juniorization" of a company's workforce: older, higher paid, and more experienced employees are terminated, while younger, lower paid, and more in-experienced employees are retained. It's a very common practice to save money (payroll) when a company has layoffs.

Layoffs never seem to make any sense to me. You think you understand the formula but then proven wrong. Here's an article/podcast that just came out that seem to give understanding on how Disney does it:
