There's a lot I could say against Disney and how the company treats its employees, but it's really not fair to put these layoffs on the company. There is a pandemic going on. So many places are closed and those that are not anymore have seen their attendance plummet. I know the truth might hurt, but no company will keep on employees when there's no work for them.

Disney has a habit of keeping people that have worked there 20+ years regardless if they are terrible at their jobs or not. Plus they make a lot of money to do less work than others on the same team. Its not fair
It’s not Disney fault. I am someone who is getting laid off because I was active but the union is allowing those who turned down their recall to come back and bump out lower seniority people. The ones who turned down their recall should have been the first ones laid off. They are all old time slackers
was cut yesterday from WDI Glendale, once again just like the furlough the Managers just kept their little favorites. The decision should be left to someone who is competent. My manager runs the dept. like its 3rd grade, very clickey. Her decision was based on who she likes personally not who is the best worker. Its Sad, WDI has always been like this, alots of little Hitlers running the show.
Are you someone who actually got laid off or furloughed by Disney? Or are you someone coming in here and saying Disney “can’t afford” to keep paying people health insurance when they cash reserves of over 20 billion dollars
I call b—s— on it’s not Disney’s fault. Uhm, it’s completely and totally Disney’s fault on how they treated park and resort cast members. Take a cut in pay/bonus executive team and send it to the park and resorts cast members as that is chump change for you. One less facial for the high maintenance misses. In addition, love the way Disney announced it on the day of the debate, hmm that’s convenient. How about the shares they bought back or the dividend paid to the shareholders. Disney is like any other public company that is controlled by the shareholders... it’s all about the shareholders; not the cast members. 2 cents take it or leave it.
Disney made an agreement to keep health insurance for furloughed workers through April. We are right to call them out when they go back on their word
There seems to be no rhyme or reason, and the parameters are different all over the place. My wife's team let go the four newest hired managers to the team and the two newest coordinators (she had more company seniority than half the team and would have been fine). They said it was about money but they kept all of the senior managers who take home more than anyone else? Our friends team let go anyone with less than 10 or more than 20 years with the company. It is what it is at this point, but we honestly thought we'd be safe and here we are.
The issue is not whether is Disney's fault or not; yes, I agree; it is not Disney's fault, it is the way that they are handling the process and the optics of it.
They reinstated the executives' salaries; they hired a new WDI president and perhaps other movements that we don't know. Yet, layoffs took place and blamed the State of California for not reopening Disneyland when the dismissals happened in Florida and other business units.
Regarding the layoffs, I knew from the get-go when many of us were furloughed that if there was not a sound recovery, we were going to suffer because there was not going to be revenue to support the business. That was a pretty obvious conclusion. The longer it will last, the worst it will be, and here we are.
Yes, not Disney's fault, but the question is, what were the parameters to layoff people? And why did they say permanent layoffs instead of being temporary? What do we think when many of us have performed our work with integrity, honesty, and professionalism? At least I have done that, yet, we are gone. I got much training, became a subject matter expert, and had solid technical knowledge….and it did not matter. In situations like this, we hear the term "cleaning house," and if that is the case, this will resonate to many of us regardless of experience and performance as we are unwanted, unappreciated, and we just became merely an extra expense that they need to get rid off.
Although it is business, as my manager said, I wished they had made the layoff decisions based on a balanced and transparent evaluation of the personnel and the individual departments. Layoffs were inevitable; I do not doubt that, as I said, it was the process.
Many of us are at a crossroads, not ready for retirement, but not quite prepared to start all over again. Many of us still have mortgages to pay, and maybe children that are still in college or about to finish college.
I am pretty sure that many of us could have accepted a temporary part-time work because I can tell you that this situation will pass, and we all will remember it as a dark moment in our lives. The question will be, will they hire us back? Or will they hire younger people without experience when the economy is back to normal?
