There is a need for reorganization and improving efficiencies at Wells Fargo, which will involve layoffs. However that is just one lone part of the transformation that needs to occur at this organization.
My issue with our new CEO is that he is not a leader who will move this company forward. Shareholders should be questioning our apathetic Board of Directors for putting the future of our brand in the hands of a disconnected, non-transparent, self-serving, cold CEO who has shown no interest in building a productive engaged team, or setting the direction for the company.
Those who say he is just here for a couple of years to execute the layoffs and is making $36.5 million to “take the heat”, that may or may not be true. But our shareholders, employees, customers and communities all deserve better than what Charlie is demonstrating he is capable of. I would think for $36.5 million we should be getting infinitely more than a CEO who has only displayed one skill-set: cutting costs.
The world’s top brands have grasped the power that is generated from putting people (employees) ahead of profits through shared values like authenticity, ownership, community, and collaboration. Successful companies, which are known for having high trust and high employee engagement are guided by visionary leaders who understand that you must build a thriving corporate culture in order to increase productivity and profits and attract top talent.
We deserve a CEO who understands and cares about how human beings thrive at work. A CEO who strengthens bonds at work, not one who pits employees against each other in an effort to survive an uncertain future. A CEO who recognizes the world is changing, so we have to support the training of people so that they're ready for change. A CEO who is able to shift our organization from a traditional model, which is very top-down, to one where we learn how to be collaborative. A CEO who is committed to pursuing excellence for their employees. A CEO who recognizes that investing in their employees is one of the best Returns on Investment a company can make. A CEO who strives to create a better, more innovative, more compelling place to work work, for the both the near and long term success of our company. A CEO who is committed to practicing consistent, reliable, predictable, effective, thoughtful, compassionate, and courteous communication. A CEO who is committed to creating an environment in which employees are valued, respected, and appreciated.
I see a CEO who shows no interest or inclination or vision for creating an improved corporation where all stakeholders can benefit and grow for years to come.
