Thread regarding Wells Fargo & Co. layoffs

Merging with Goldman Sachs, a good idea?

This has been speculated before and I probably old news. But wanted to know who thinks that merging with G.S would be a positive for Wells Fargo share holders and employees? Below is the article that talks about this scenario. Yes, it will be almost impossible to implement now since WF is under the Asset Cap. But once the Asset Cap is lifted is this M&A deal possible?

“Wells Fargo, PNC and U.S. Bancorp are the names on the shortlist of whom Goldman Sachs might approach for a merger deal amid declining earnings and investments, according to a Fox Business report.
Goldman, despite its reputation as the bank for the ultra-wealthy and the world’s most profitable companies, has been in a rut as of late, with its market value of $59 billion a fraction of JPMorgan Chase’s $256 billion.
So, according to sources in the investment banking world, Goldman might be on the market for a deal with another major bank in the next few months. It would be a change for a firm that has long valued its independence.

FOX Business’s Charles Gasparino, in a tweet, revealed the news, saying that sources told him Goldman Sachs’ “weakening biz model” would “force a merger.”

Goldman Sachs Chief Financial Officer Stephen Scherr said the bank would be open to acquisitions as a way to boost its current projects.

Partnering with Goldman Sachs could be a boon for Wells Fargo, which saw its reputation damaged after a scandal last year involving fake accounts made in order to hit a quota. The scandal ended up costing the bank billions in court-mandated costs and business clients. CEO John Stumpf was also let go due to the affair.

Wells Fargo’s new CEO, Charles Schwarf, is a former JPMorgan executive, and that bank has always held to a belief that partnerships between commercial and investment banking can lead to better customer service, Fox Business reported”

: @OP+17gw6Y1e. Are you usually this nasty outside work as well? What does this have to do with IQ? As I mentioned before, this article was written by Fox News Business. I was simply agreeing with their point of view. If that’s so complicated for you to understand perhaps your IQ isn’t as high as you might think.

I wish people had to pass a basic IQ test before creating these types of posts

@1pmo+17gw6Y1e. Also, the article was written by Fox News not by me. I know it’s all speculation but usually these kind of speculations become reality down the line in the future. I personally see this deal happening soon. If you did some digging, you would know that Charlie was a CFO of Smith Barney When the current CEO(David Solomon) of Goldman Sachs used to work there. So, most likely they are good buddies. Anyways, all I am saying is do not be surprised if a M&A deal goes through some time in the future. It’s a win win for both parties IMO.

@1pmo+17gw6Y1e. FYI. I am not a day trader and do not have any shares in Wells outside my 401k retirement plan. So, a swing and a miss on that guess.

I keep seeing these kinds of posts and thinking some day trader is down for the week and trying to stir up some points.

I know people have short memories, but making things that are too big to fail more too bigger to fail is probably a good way to remind people how much they lost in 2008.

I suspect the pump and dumpers are replying to themselves on these as well.

Such a waste of time. Stay safe.

@loh+17gw6Y1e. I am thinking from POV of Chuckles and his gang. I think they would be very interested to do a deal with GS. Of course Asset Cap needs to be granted first. This would boost the stock value for Wells and that’s great news for someone who has a lot of options and stock to exercise short term. After the merger, Chuckles and his gang will cash out and move back to their nest(Chase)

WF is an unlikely commercial bank for a merger. We’re going through a massive multi-year restructuring, are already the product of 50 clunky mergers, and regulators have us under a microscope + asset cap. There are many other banks which would be far more favorable to GS.

You people are insane if you think a top notch Wall Street form like GS would ever want to merge with a talentless sh–show like Wells Fargo.

I really doubt WF or GS want that regulatory headache.

Ah but sorry its not in a rut, GS is selling for top dollar right now because of trading profits, that will go away soon. Wouldn't touch investment banking or trading with a ten foot pool a year from now. Wells Fargo is a great spot, just need to cut expenses and get the consent order lifted.
