Thread regarding Wells Fargo & Co. layoffs

What are better options for banks or credit unions after a layoff from Wells Fargo?

If laid off from Wells Fargo there is really no reason to retain the banking relationship with that company anymore. What banks or credit unions offer good banking terms to switch over to?

A woman on your desk is crazy to use any debit card, no matter what bank it’s through. Being willing to use a debit card is a good interview question... no knowledgeable banker would use them.

A woman on my desk has a debit card through Wells Fargo. No joke, she is hacked about once a year for years now. She could be doing something wrong herself, but she is a very detailed conscientious person. I have had a Credit Card through Chase for 20 years and have never had one problem.

I just got a mortgage and my neighbor asked me if I got a good rate at WF. I almost laughed. The thing is I never once thought about getting my mortgage through WF. Why would I? I am not going to be constantly looking over my shoulder to see what they are doing to rip me off.

What credit unions offer lesser terms than Wells?

None.

We moved all our accounts to a CU in 2009 after the banks trashed the economy and it's been awesome. A car loan and a home fix up loan at low rates, great service, and never once did they create 6 more accounts beyond our checking and savings.

I think Ally offers better terms but know the limitations.

Never bank at your employer is very good advice, and I can't think of any reason to bank at Wells at all.

Never ever ever bank with your employer to any appreciable level. You expose yourself to too much risk. If you do choose to bank with an employer make sure it is just a pass through account. Hold no long term assets, maximizing whatever benefit gained with the minimum amount of input transferring assets out as soon as feasible.

That being said just about any local credit union will be better than a big bank. Just shop around online and review offerings to decide.

I have never banked with WF. When you work closely with QA and see how they do production checkout, you would never bank with them. They don't need a social security number to do a lookup. It's not that I have anything to hide, but I don't want them snooping around in my accounts.

I just remember writing a check to one of the "Technology Managers" (using that loosely), because I owed her some money. She actually took that check, because it was an off-us check and gave it to her team to test with. I couldn't believe it when I walked into the lab and my check was in there being passed around. And yes, this person is back as a contractor working at WF - unfortunately.

Also, why would you continue to bank with WF while working for them? They are as corrupt as can be. Are you constantly double-checking everything that they do?

Ally and Discover, both online and far superior to Wells Fargo in every way that I can see. Less fees, better rates on savings and CDs, more intuitive app. I’m appreciative for the time I’ve worked here, but I truly have no idea why anyone would continue to bank here, other than old habits.
