Tech is a huge mess. People leaving, teams getting ripped apart and rebuilt with absolutely no reason or thought process. It’s a total clown show.

I have done Agile. This org doesn’t understand that “sprints” don’t work if they’re three weeks long with three weeks of regression and a manual build/deploy process. And it doesn’t work if nobody has any idea what the end goal is and you ask clarifying questions and you get told that this is “agile” and we don’t figure anything out in advance. The regulators will love this. You cannot fix Tech without untangling every dependency and every antipattern and rebuilding from the ground up. You can’t fix technical debt by announcing a new methodology.
This is one of those weeks where I respect my colleagues for everything we’ve had to do to keep things going but really would not be that upset if I got a package.
The problem with agile I've seen first-hand is that by it's very nature, with development speed as the focus, that means more bugs, no way around it. But this isn't acceptable to management even though they are the ones pushing agile.

Agile wont fix the issues, at best it will just create new issues. Tech needs to be blown up but its too big to fix.
Agile is the closest we can get to the holy grail from a development standpoint. I've worked in 3 companies where it has worked great.
IT has to deliver faster in terms of weeks not 3 months to 24 months.
For me, 12 years at Wells, it was when the Agile force-feeding came. It started before Saul and yes, he did accelerate it. "Agile will fix everything" they said. No it made most things worse. Going from a team of 100 requirements analysts to 0 is not a good thing. All of our SMEs gone and you want developers to do their job now? I can't tell you what you want, I'm sorry, I just program what you want. This infatuation with agile being the only solution is not the answer. Yes, waterfall was slow but Agile is not the holy grail.

You obviously don't work here. While that may be somewhat true higher up the food chain, the further you go down the line the better the management talent. Some of the best and highest caliber folks I've ever had the pleasure of working with.
Uh, the people working in IT/Tech in leadership roles are lifers who have no idea how to manage anything.

Agree – "clown show" may be too kind – any real clown would have moved on to another circus. No jobs left except following the elephants with a tiny shovel.
I love the enterprise teams that constantly are breaking our apps and servers. It’s just ridiculous. We have more ECR’s to fix enterprise stuff that was released without peer review or testing and outside their own CR windows! Give us back control of our own servers. We had far fewer issues when we were in charge of what was released into our own environments instead of opening it up to 100 different enterprise teams who just do as they please.
This is why they need to break the bank up. It’s too F’d -up to ever come anywhere close to being reasonably fixed/improved. It’s impossible to try to keep business rolling 24/7 while making the meaningful changes that need to be made. We need completely new systems and new vendors. But you can’t shut down the bank and brokerage for months to switch it all over. So we just keep adding bandaids to the original ancient systems from the 70s. They keep pushing the ultimate hard decisions down the road, crossing their fingers that the eventual looming disaster doesn’t happen on their watch. It’s going to have to happen at some point.

Not to mention the people they have deploying code and maintaining the lower environments are totally incompetent. Not a good thing in an agile environment that is supposed to embrace automation!
Yep, started before Saul, but he's not helping any.
Internal apps (not customer facing) are garbage and they keep replacing them with even worse options.
Management is scared of their management, and management by fear isn't good management.
I was hoping tomorrow would be The Day, but it's not looking like there will be any layoffs on my team.
It couldn't be worse than what it was and I work in tech.
This started even before Saul got here, just accelerated since then.
