Thread regarding Wells Fargo & Co. layoffs

How far in advance does management know?

How far in advance do managers and director-levels usually know of layoffs? Do they get a month notice or is it more like 24 hours, 15 minutes, etc.?

I'm sure it varies but what's it been lately?

Stop.

A poor review is a reason to get fired, not layed off.

They don't need a reason to lay you off.

They may be using reviews to cherry pick, but in the past they've let entire teams go, all at once.

We're not unionized, folks, we have no protections in most states, and Wells has a legal team to make sure they don't get sued in states with stronger worker protections.

Whatever happens happens, try not to stress, but don't think a good review makes you safe.

That's not how a reduction in force works.

Employee reviews are used to determine who will be cut. It's the only way to avoid legal action from employees. Manager will be told at some point that x number of his staff will be cut.

The top of the top know despite the lies of pretending not to. My mgr was and is the worst with hiding things. Other mgmt doesn’t know. You have to be one or two down from the highest in your area of the company to know. Those people also make the cuts.

they know in advance b/c they've been planning on it for a while. AFAIK, HR wasn't able to execute on this stuff b/c of the numbers involved. There were other issues too IIRC.

Bottom line is they know, they also know who in many cases, they don't know WHEN b/c that's a larger coordinated effort.

Folks, it really is ok to say “I don’t know”. I averaged the answers and it adds up to a definitive “We don’t know”.

3-5 biz days for low/lowest level direct manager if they need to do the training, less if they have already taken it.

Managers who are laying off teammates are required to take training before they can speak with impacted teammates. The training has to be done approximately a week in advance. By now, most Managers have taken the training given they have already laid off associates.

Having been a Manager who unfortunately had to lay off teammates, it is a tough process. I too have been laid off twice over the past 26 years.

My prayers go out to all impacted by the layoffs. Be safe and stay positive.

Sorry edit... 11/17. And the managers had made those decisions at least weeks ago.

I was told that managers already know who they will be letting go for the 11/16 date.

They are given sufficient time to plan for it and ensure it is not overly disruptive to the team and their customers.

HR are not the fools the posters on here would have you believe they are. Business must go on.

Last round some managers posted that they found out the day before and then scheduled the one on one for that next morning. Likely higher level managers know more.

Direct manager might get up to 24 hour notice, but that is about it.

I don’t know about Director level, but I have heard managers at Chase and BoA say they find out right before the employee does and are told who to let go, they have no choice in the matter.
