yeah what is going on this week? My computer has literally forced restarted 3x, with no notice. Just at the end-point screen when I go to login for the morning. Annoying.
Good thread. I am on (I think) my fifth software install this week; at least two of them required reboots. I am staring at Cisco Jabber right now. Last time it was Endpoint. Oh, wait – there was also a Windows Update.
Denial ain’t just a river in Egypt... it’s apparently a core requirement for Wells Windows admins. Sad...
To be fair, much of this is due to Microsoft’s sheer incompetence. They never really understood the beautiful, layered OS that IBM built for them... the foundation of all Windows post 2000. Well, you break it you bought it.
The rest of the blame is on our Windows Administrators. Only the good ones really know how to manage and control the patch rollouts, and good ones at Wells are working on software dev because we sure can’t manage patch scheduling.
@tvi+17LVdraQ From the Windows team should fix the issues with the patches rather than throwing a hissy fit at impacted end users.
Why are you complaining about your inability to schedule automated updates and reboots before reaching a deadline on a layoff board?
i always attend EDCRG and the whole calendar from sept oct nov is full of UAT and deployment because december is year end freeze.

I don't think some of you understand - yes we know about the icon, yes we know about scheduling updates - guess what - lately it does not matter. I check for the icon every day, I check the software distribution site and have still been SURPRISED by a mid day update. It's happened to everyone on my team in the last 2 weeks, MORE THAN ONCE. It's getting out of hand.
Feel lucky it hasn't happened to you yet and stop acting all superior that you've got these updates under control - ya don't.

and when the updates become available there is usually am icon in the system tray that appears upwards of a week before they force it. when you seen that icon you can run the update and reboot when convenient for you like first thing on the morning or at end of day.
Schedule them outside your business hours then.
WTF are you talking about, updates start going out Tuesdays and are complete within 3 days based on the fact that they are staggered. If you decide to hold back on some of them, then yes you will have to reboot one after the other, days after, but that's on you. Quit your complaining, this has nothing to do with layoffs you putz.
I'm in IT and this happens to me, usually just one reboot but sometimes multiples.
You can schedule these after hours if you want.
You get multiple forced reboots per day regularly?
I get a forced reboot about once a week. Two would be abnormal.
